General Road Type Rules U.A.E

This post describes the U.A.E. official standard of applying the correct road type to a road

Elevation -5 is used for non-drivable railroad and runways, to help ensure that the routing engine does not try to connect or route drivers from roads onto non-roads by mistake. It acts to prevent false system reporting that the roads should be connected.

Any user input for improvement is welcome.

I would suggest the following for the E-designation roads based on the following definition:

Source: http://www.diffen.com/difference/Freeway_vs_Highway

Therefore, I would suggest the following:

  • E-11: Freeway from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah, thereafter Major Highway from Ajman to Ras Al Khaimah since it has left/right/u-turns.[/*]
  • E-311: Freeway from Ras Al Khaimah up until Dubai Sport City, thereafter Major Highway through Jebel Ali since it has roundabouts from there on until after Maktoum International Airport where the road ends.[/*]

All the D-roads can then be classified as Minor Highways irrespective of where they are.

A suggestion on this:

Waze does not use Parking Lot Roads for routing, therefore if that segment is required to get you from one area to another it will route you around that particular Parking Lot road segment. One road in Dubai which stands out in particular is the service road adjacent to E11 - Sheik Zayed Road; this road is required to get you off the highway into the adjacent areas such as Satwa, Trade Centre and Al Quoz.

On the other hand, all those small road segments along Al Wasl Road and Jumeira road does not serve any routing purpose and is there only for parking - these should be Parking Lot roads. I am of the opinion that these segments do not have to be drawn and can simply be left off the maps as they only create clutter.

Service road alternatives adjusted/explained.
Railroads added for all sorts of public transportation.
Standard locking strategy added to provide level of protection to applicable road level.

With only about half a dozen toll gates in the whole country, why is it not possible to have these annotated correctly on the maps (eg the two bridges in Dubai)? For some vehicles from other Emirates without Salik cards, this is a real issue.

The toll roads are mapped correctly but this feature is not active in the uae yet.
Request is at waze hq but it appears to be difficult or low priority to them. :frowning:

OK. Thanks again for the response. Just out of curiosity, why do the other Toll Gates still show up (eg Al Barsha)?

Not sure what you mean. As a place in the app? That can be due to the size of the place. Small places aren’t shown in the app. But i thought they’re all the same.
I can check them after my holiday if they’re missing.
