I’m relatively new to being an editor here, but I do have some questions that I thought may be best discussed in the forum rather than a PM. I apologize in advance if some of these questions may have been answered in a different thread.

How do we handle private irrigation “roads” or field drives that do not lead to any place of residence or business? Generally these have been listed as the Parking Lot Road type (although some are still listed as the Private Road type). Should these be listed as Private Roads or the Off-Road type? These can easily become impassible by a regular commuter after a brief amount of precipitation. Often times even trying to turn around on one of these drives can become problematic, which is why I believe these should not be mapped (as long as these “roads” do not lead to a residence or business). I would hate for a user to look at the map and see a “road” that they could turn around on or even attempt to drive on and then run into trouble.

If a rural residence/farm has a drive that enters/exits from one side of a section all the way through the property to another side of the section, should the driveway that corresponds to the address of the residence only be mapped? This would prevent users from being routed through the “backside” of the property.
There will likely be more questions to come as I update rural Platte and surrounding counties.
Farm roads that don’t go anywhere generally should not be mapped. As a new editor you have limited deletion privileges because someone else abused the privilege. If you come visit us in discord https://discord.me/wazepln we can hep out with those.
As for the second question, if you have access to the house from either main road, it’s acceptable to map the driveway that wayway. Using the parking lot road type will prevent through routing by design
I understand the logic behind the restriction. I’m trying to become a L2 so I don’t have to bother you all with having to delete some of these segments that were improperly mapped. In the meantime I will use the discord. Thanks!
Don’t ever worry about being a bother. That’s what we’re here for is to help with unlocks, approvals, deletions until you’re leveled up and more comfortable with the system.
I think you’d had a comment about the irrigation roads, if you know of locations where they’re gated off we should likely keep things disconnected there, but if some are accessible without having to go through a gate or unlock access, we can still keep that open by using PLR roads so anyone that needs to use it to access a property can or if they’re leaving they can have the routing engine use the road segment to route back to a main road.
Routing-wise there’s very little difference between Parking Lot Roads and Private Roads, but the Parking Lot Roads (PLRs) will look more diminished in the app where Private Road (PR) type looks closer to Local Street. Parking Lot Road type has the ability to prevent auto-traffic jam detection should someone stop on that segment.
Another question… If a road is gated and requires a key, should it be labeled a private road or PLR?
Is that the only point of entry for that facility or are there other possible entry points?
Given that we would not want drivers to be routed on that road since they don’t have a key to the gate, marking it as private would suffice. That way, a strong enough routing penalty would be applied to it to prevent the engine from considering it.
If it’s the only point of access a PLR would still suffice. If you don’t mind, would you please relay a link as to the area you have in mind?

This specific segment only has one access point, which I understand why it was changed back to a PLR. There are other segments that I would like to change that are related to this occurrence (these segments along the canal belong to a power utility). Some of these segments are open to the public while others are locked and only accessible by the utility and select farmers.
That’s a situation where we may not need to use anything other than the PLR segments. The reason being, Waze shouldn’t randomly use those segments if set to PLR unless a destination could only be reached using those routes. We might need to change an approach though if you’re looking at it from a perspective of you’re already on a canal access rd and you need to have Waze route you out of the area via the open routes and not through a gated off section.
If that’s a scenario you’re thinking of, we might be better served doing one of two things. Either create a short stub segment where the gate resides and convert it to Private Road, OR we disconnect that portion of road and leave a map comment noting there’s a typically closed gate at that location to discourage others from re-connecting to a main road.
