When searching for “Elk River, MN” without a specific address noted the destination Waze gives users is a rural gravel pit on the northern border of the city. How can this be altered to be Elk River City Hall (13065 Orono Parkway Elk River, MN 55330) or downtown Elk River? Thank you!
So, 2 answers.
First, the reason for the navigation to the gravel pit is that this is the geographic center of the 55330 ZIP code. When the map was imported, all of the roads within that ZIP were given a primary city name of Elk River, which causes Waze (and Google) to think that the center of the city is the gravel pit. Fixing that will take a LOT of work, that probably won’t happen any time soon. Just not enough editors in the area.
However, I was able to add a place for “Elk River,MN” on top of city hall and link it to the Google city. Testing shows this to work fine. It’s not a perfect solution, and will only work within Waze, but it’s the best we can do until we get more folks out this way to clean up the area.
