Just heads up, I am working on making Greene County compliant with the current TN FC maps.
Once again, I disagree with TN on some things but will make the changes reflect what the state publishes.

I am using the translation of:
Urban Principle Arterial - Major Highway
Rural Principle Arterial - Major Highway
Urban Minor Arterial - Minor Highway
Rural Minor Arterial - Minor Highway
Urban Major Collector - Minor Highway when State/Federal Highway, otherwise Primary
Rural Major Collector - Minor Highway when State/Federal Highway, otherwise Primary
Rural Minor Collector - Primary
I’m relatively new here, but what do you disagree with, theemike? Are there things that we could/should be doing different in TN?
I looked around just a bit and saw your exchange with paulwelch23 in this thread, but it looked like you both ended up on the same page.
I would hope that, if there is a better (or even just a universally standard) way of doing things that we aren’t in compliance with, we’d happily agree to change our methods if they were pointed out. Or at least be willing to discuss it?
Thoughts?
For example, sometimes you will find that roads that you personally consider to be “primary” TN will leave it as just a “street” or vice-versa. Not a big deal but sometimes annoying.
Back in August or September, I went through Greene county and made road classification changes to be in line with Waze guidelines and TDOT FC maps. I have done this for all TN counties northeast of a line between Cookeville and Madisonville (as well as all other TN major metropolitan cities). You are welcome to check over my work.
You are pretty close in your translation, but there are a couple of modifications:
Urban Interstate - Freeway
Rural Interstate - Freeway
Urban Expressway - Freeway if fully limited access / Major Highway if partially limited access
Rural Principal Arterial - Freeway if fully limited access / Major Highway if partially limited access
Urban Principal Arterial - Major Highway
Urban Minor Arterial - Major Highway if Federal Highway / otherwise Minor Highway
Rural Minor Arterial - Major Highway if Federal Highway / otherwise Minor Highway
Urban Collector - Major Highway if Federal Highway / Minor Highway if State Highway / otherwise Primary
Rural Major Collector - Major Highway if Federal Highway / Minor Highway if State Highway / otherwise Primary
Rural Minor Collector - Primary
Editor judgement is needed when determining transition between classification when moving from urban to rural maps. Based on forum conversation when the Waze guidelines were issued 6 months ago, I try to find a key intersection or location where road makes a noticeable change.
If you have any questions, please ask.
I will pm you later. I have a couple of questions

I would tend to lean towards Paul’s list as it most fits with the current guidelines with the exception by omission that to make sure federal highway BUS routes are not automatically categorized as Major and the Same as State Highways as BUS Routes are not automatically categorized as Minor.
