Searched the topic, because it seemed obvious; didn’t find anything, so, here goes…
I have noticed a flurry of new wazers in my area, “babies” a few days old, then after a few days, they are gone or seldom around.
Since Waze is “community oriented”, wouldn’t it make sense to send a welcome message to the new guys, so they feel part of it.
Since people around here seem pretty … “individualistic”, some incentive would help; some points per greeting with a max of 5 greetings per day.
If they disappear after a few days that may be because their routes are not navigatable from day 1. Maybe 1% (probably closer to 0.1%) finds a new hobby in editing. I doubt you can bind the other 99% with the social aspect alone.
Until last year points could be collected with chitchat and it resulted in “Hi!”-spam ad nauseam… the only way to stop it was to take away the points for chitchat.
Around here, the routes are very well mapped; the wazers I chatted with use it mainly for traffic and cops/radar. Nothing is 100% or 99%, but if we could retain 10% of those who leave, it would be nice.
I am used to complex system, I was captain on a corporate jet for 20 + years, understanding Waze was not intuitive. Being well versed in computers, it was easy for me to get help on the forum here.
It took me almost an hour to figure out how to activate voice commands (ASR) in Europe.
Waze is a complex device: mapping, routing, search, traffic avoidance, weather warning, police/radar update , chat plus map editing; and I didn’t find the instructions easy to follow. Live support is outstanding though.
I can understand a newcomer being overwhelmed
I see your point regarding the abuse of the point system
How are the people in your country ? I never used Waze in mine (Florida), but here, on the French Riviera, I have been wazing for over a month and still have to witness a chitchat.
Maybe some “canned” sentences would help, would be easier for new people to get their feet wet ???
