Hampshire Unlock request

Hi Editors,

I would like to be able to edit the following segments.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

There is a no right turn on what is actually a roundabout at the intersection of Elm Road and Vyne Road on the east side of this roundabout. It is an odd shape roundabout, but the map as drawn indicates an extreme oblique junction of two one way street segments. However if looked at closely on the satellite view there is white lining with chevrons and to the west of this apparent oblique junction the road wraps around a kerb that forms the island. The street link as drawn doesn’t show it as a roundabout. It needs a new additional segment put in to short cut around the east side of the roundabout and the no right turn removing.

Similarly, there is a right turn around the roundabout on the west side as you approach it from down Vyne Road.

I have tried on several occasions tried to get Google to change this without success. However Apple Maps has been corrected after an earlier request from me.

As drawn if I enter from the north into this roundabout, I find myself being routed in a big loop north of a few miles just to avoid crossing through this no right turn.

And the marked segment across the north side is actually Vyne Road and should be marked up as such. The junction of Elm and Vyne Roads is on the corner top left at the left end of the selected segment.

Thank you in advance,

This is in no way a roundabout junction, it is simply a large splitter island to ensure traffic isn’t turning into the side roads that are off this blind corner. I have unlocked these roads as it could be drawn better to provide a simple, single turn instruction. Let us know if you need any assistance and when you’re done.

Chris,

Thank you for your reponse. I can see where you are coming from and perhaps I should describe it as an island then.

I merely want to remove the no right turn at the ‘B’ end of segment 144806340.

I understand that you may not think of this island as a roundabout, but it is in the middle of the village and there is a school off the north west corner and there are double facing signs indicating keep left on each end of the island. If there was no right turn then everyone especially at school drop off time would have a 4.7 mile detour to the north and around Morgaston road and turning back left on to the A340 towards Basingstoke to then turn left down Cranes Road to come back into the village. There would be chaos and a riot at school drop off times if this were not permissable.

If photos will help I am happy to send some.

There are no ‘No right Turn’ signs mounted anywhere on this island that would prevent people turning around it. I am merely seeking to remove the anomaly that suggests you cannot turn right around the island as indicated, which on the Waze mapping system causes us a huge diversion north and around. Similarly if I wished to come from the North down Vyne road I can turn right (or left) from the ‘B’ end of segment 144806337 around the island on its western side to turn into School lane or into the private drive to the north.

Yes I would love some help please as I am a newbie in the map editing game and I do not want to mess it up. I have drawn a new link where you will see upon inspection that the white lining chevrons(?) are worn away due to the traffic flowing around the end of the island. However it probably isn’t necessary to add a link but only removal of the no right turn is required as in my second paragraph above. Local people know they can turn here. Please correct it if not ok and advise me what I should do next. If I need to talk to Hampshire County Highways to clarify this I am happy to do so.

Thanks for your help.

I understand what you are aiming for and not against the change in any way, I’ve simplified your new segment by using hte exiting layout but condensed. Let me know if this is more appropriate.

Thank you for that modification Chris,

ID: 144806340 still seemed to have a no right turn on the island linking to ID: 144806337 but I have managed to change it now so the route shows a green arrow rather than red and this should allow you to go from the school to the village hall without doing a major detour.

Let me know if that is now ok with you and it can be updated officially your end if that is how it works.

‘Betterlookout’

Chris,

Fantastic. I am so pleased today, as I tried a route to the pub from the track and now I am getting a direct routing there .

No more 4.7 mile detours. Thank you so much for your assistance. I’ve been trying to get Google to change this for quite a few years, I’m in a short space of time it is done on Waze. Does any of the Waze feedback filter back to Google itself and change their mapping ever?

I also have the same question and have run into a very similar situation with Waze map editing. I’ve noticed that oddly shaped roundabouts often get drawn as separate one-way segments, which then causes incorrect turn restrictions and really strange routing behavior. Like you, I’ve seen cases where a “no right turn” is applied even though traffic clearly flows around a roundabout in real life. It’s especially frustrating when this leads to long detours that don’t make sense.

I’m also wondering what the correct process is to get something like this unlocked or reviewed, especially when satellite imagery clearly shows the roundabout markings and kerb layout. It kind of feels like when you’re playing a Toca Boca game you set up everything carefully, arranging roads, characters, and objects, but sometimes the system interprets your layout in unexpected ways, causing things to behave incorrectly. You can check more about it here https://tocaboca.app/ I’ve tried reporting through map issues and even comparing with Google and Apple Maps, but progress seems slow. Hopefully a higher-level editor can take a look and advise on the best way to fix the geometry and turn restrictions properly.
