There’s a set of junctions in Manchester that’s been puzzling me for a while. As you can see from the image below, even though there is a direct route here, at certain times of the day Waze prefers the up and over route:
The more direct and natural route is 20 seconds slower:
All necessary segments have had an alternative name set to enable detour prevention, but this doesn’t seem to be working:
The left turn onto Mancunian Way from Great Ancoats Street is needed, as there is an entrance to a Currys PC World car park on that side of the carriageway.
You need a change of segment type on the “detour”. If all segments for both routes are the same type as they are in this case, detour avoidance will not kick in.
Unfortunately at certain times of day (Sat 11.30am in this case), the detour prevention still doesn’t seem to be working. I can’t work out why. Any more suggestions?
Unfortunately no. The left turn is required here for access to the business in the middle (specifically for those coming from Ashton Old Road and Chancellor Lane), and is it a legal left, so shouldn’t be disabled.
But… you have given me an idea. I’ve put a connecting ‘ramp’ for the left turn there. This should increase the ‘penalties’ for the detour. Lets see how this goes.
