Hello All.
Just a question as to the thinking behind turning various roads throughout the CBD into Minor Highways.

The Waze Wiki on How to label and name roads - Australia, says State Highways or State Roads (the ones with white on blue) should be minor highways.
http://world.waze.com/wiki/?title=How_to_label_and_name_roads_(Australia)
And Wikipedia, road maps, UBD etc show them as State Routes
A couple of links that maybe helpful for any others that may have been missed or incorrectly done
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_road_routes_in_Western_Australia

The rest of Riverside Dr should be changed to a minor highway as well, but maybe after they finish all the construction for Elizabeth Quay.
It’s pretty clear there is way to much minor in that area for an optimal routing.
…What I see in a quick look, is that some tuning of the map is very welcome over there…
And about the wiki…I think there are a lot exceptions.
For example the following state routes defenitly needs to be major for routing…
No wonder we can never get anywhere when we have to drive here (even using a dedicated gps unit) ![]()
Most of the ones you have pointed out are, country routes, and would be better as major due to the distances we have to drive on them. We’re getting there slowly, one road at a time…
Thanks
Quick question, especially locals who travel country alot.
While we are upgrading the road types from minor to major types.
Would it be worth upgrading the primary to minor types for roads connecting country towns due to the vast distances between them?
Thoughts?
0-15 km - All road types are allowed for routing.
15-20 km - All road types except Streets.
20-30 km - All road types except Streets and Primary streets.
30-200 km - Only Minor, Major, Ramps and Freeways.
more than 200 km - only Freeways.
For good routing there should be a good balance of roadtypes in an area.
According the linked wiki pages those are state routes?
Yes, they are all state routes. The three digit routes are routes in the rural/country areas.
So, with Western Australia being almost the same size as Western Europe how would we classing our roads?
There’s some really useful info in this thread. Thanks!
One question I would have though is at what speeds are certain road types visible.
I have noticed that when driving at the legal limit on some roads that the actual road I am driving on disappears from view.
Zoomlevels are based on speed. There is a difference between iOS and Android. And even landscape vs portrait is different.
But I think the only roadtype that is disappear to early is ‘street’.
Agreed, it is disconcerting when the street you are driving on is invisible.
