I’ve seen quite a few place photos that people seem to be taking of houses, front gates, mailboxes, etc… I guess these are the wazer’s own premises.
Nothing distinctive about the images - they could be anyone’s house. But there’s a remote possibility they may help the pizza delivery man, StarTrack, etc… :?
They may have been added to the maps before approval was required.
If they’re attached to a residential place and they appear recognisable/distinctive (and otherwise conform to rules e.g. no identifiable people or registration plates), then I’d tend to approve them. If someone is navigating to a defined residential place then presumably the photo will show up on arrival.
You can use a entry / exit point on a RPP.
The location should be the middle of the house. Your right on the money there.
The entry point can be marked where the driveway connects (in aerial). Very useful for cnr blocks, or where the centre of house is closer to another road.
The photos all have some / minimal value in helping the user identify the correct address. Except the last one of cause.
Of your silly ones I would reject all but the middle one. Maybe the middle one as well if you think it doesnt show what you would expect to see coming along the street.
As for the top one I dont think you can move the photo can you so if the photo is attached to house A and the photo is of house B across the street then reject it.
I started examining place photos everywhere I went while editing.
So far, I’ve seen about a dozen that were upside-down, a few overexposed, a couple that were so badly out-of-focus they could have been pictures of anything, many taken at night or in the rain (and one taken at night - in the rain), someone’s pet dog, a selfie of a woman sitting in her car, lots containing complete vehicle rego plates, some kids playing at the beach, someone uploaded a bunch of Ford badges and pictures of his car’s dashboard, many showing the view of the street from inside the house, and a few people showing-off their big screen TV.
There are also a large number by a current editor who has been taking photos inside the shops - rather than the outside. These includes closeups of menus and opening times for the business.
These are usually accompanied by a cheesy promotion in the place description panel like “Sumptuous cuisine served in an authentic Italian setting.” - only with spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors included. I just found one for a backpackers hostel with their night rates. Is this what the place description panel is for? :?
But seriously, there were some real privacy issues with many of the photos I encountered, so I’ve deleted them.
