Red light cameras are not legal in some parts of the houston area also. If you see them please confirm this before deleting them. Some people post red light cameras in the app as speed cameras so that is why I say this.
Didn’t Houston proper get rid of all of the RLCs? I remember it was a big deal awhile ago and I can see some of the outer lying communities may not get rid of them.
City of Houston RLCs were ended in August of 2011 by City Ordinance. It was a real nightmare and the private company they hired for collections was a bit over-eager, causing all sorts of horror stories.
They were, however, well labelled with big signs indicating there were cameras ahead.
For those unfamiliar with Houston, there are many jurisdictions within and around the City which have their own rules with respect to RLC, so they may still be operating in those areas, as mdavidsonjr points out. They must be ENABLED by local ordinances before they can be used.
SPEED cameras, on the other hand are FORBIDDEN in Texas by State Law. I found this interesting chart if you want to check other states:
Many metropolitan areas outside the city limits of Houston proper use red light cameras but not speed cameras. My hunch is that app users are reporting the red light cameras. I’ve noticed on my map that there are several in my area that aren’t showing.
I have removed the speed camera that was posted along this road and in the editor it doesn’t show up. However in the app when driving it does. Can anyone else help or explain what to do for this situation?
Simply removing or adding a RLC in the editor will not cause a tile update. You need to make another edit, such as adjusting a nearby area, adding in a parking lot road, or simply changing the road type of a street to force a tile update.
