I got home today after taking I-15 SB from Glacier National Park, MT to Salt Lake City UT.
Along the way I recorded every single construction event because I noticed that Waze was showing almost no construction along that road.
I now have 14 separate construction zones that need to be added along I-15 SB.
How do I do this? I have information like approximate start and end point, lane restriction, and speed limits for each zone, but I don’t know how to add them to the map.
Do I need to use that weird construction spreadsheet? Or do I give my information to someone else so that they can add the info to the map?
Waze doesn’t handle single lane closures, if the road is still open there’s not much else you can do. The routing engine should pick up the slowed traffic in that area and adjust its routing accordingly.
Use the On Road - Construction alert. If others give the alert a thumbs up, it’ll stay on the map. If they don’t, after so many minutes, it’ll disappear.
I was having a very difficult time attempting to do that while driving. I didn’t have a cell signal very often, and when I tried to use the voice reporting it could never connect to the server. So I just stuck to writing it down on a piece of paper while I drove. I am write and still concentrate on the road because I don’t have to look at my hand to know what I am writing.
BTW, when we report things on the map, when does Waze determine where the marker should go? Does it record the location we are at when we initiate the report, or the location we are at when we hit “submit”? One would be much more accurate than the other. Especially since I am normally past the thing I am trying to report by the time I can actually submit the issue.
We don’t typically reflect construction in the map editor unless a direction of a road is completely closed or traffic patterns are shifted far enough that driving through the shifted area would cause Waze to try and recalculate your route.
As was mentioned, construction hazards must be reported from onsite, using the app.
