While we have still enough time before the rollout, we would like to share the best practices to map the Vignette in WME.
We will have enough time to answer question, clear any doubt and be ready and aligned for the rollout.
The correct way to add Vignette on relevant segment would be:
 Uncheck the Toll Road box
 Add a Driving is allowed for Specific Vignette
(unavailable attachment: Screen Shot 2018-09-03 at 3.06.00 PM.png)
The reasons behind it are:
That “Toll Road” is the strongest attribute. In case a user has “Avoid Toll Road” Enabled in the client he will not be routed trough the segments even though he has a Vignette.
This will also allow us to have a separation from ‘classic’ Toll Road and freeways that require a Vignette.
Also setting the segment as Toll Road and setting it as Toll Free with a Vignette, it will mistakenly route users to the street without the possibility to actually pay the toll.
Feel free to ask any question, our main goal is to make sure that everything is clear before the rollout.
Maybe consider setting it two way, since there’s in no guarantee that all segments are A->B one way
Better to set both ways. A and B are determined by drwaing direction and not driving direction afaik.
Firstly I have started to typing, how it would be possible to set both way restriction on one way segment. After I tested it i found out it is actually possible.
Actually it works like this: lets say you have 2 one-way segments which share one node, one is A->B and second one is B->A. If you select them both and set lets say A->B restriction, it will aplly only for that direction which is allowed.
But if you choose two independent segments, it will set restriction only for A->B, even on segment which is not drivable that direction.
When you apply two way restriction on one-way segment it will stay as two way restriction, even though the segment is one-way.
Is it possible to bound this restriction to the road types the same way as road shields are bound? There is a logic in every road network and we could use it for applying a vignette option. For example - private cars need a vignette for all types of highways outside cities.
Unfortunately this is not arbitrarily valid everywhere, not inside a single country, e.g. some cities on the same highway may be excluded from the toll and others not.
I have promised probably already in Prag to update you about a change we did in SK regards adding vignettes restrictions. So 3 months later here it is.
We have removed vignettes restrictions from all FW segments except entering ramp and connecting segment between exit and enter ramp. example here https://beta.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=17.41598&lat=48.24574&s=20942914&zoom=5&segments=339405705,319337347
Reason is wrong waze behavior, not able to stick on segment with restriction, which driver does not meet. With our updated setup, when driver does not have vignettes added, but for any reason he is on vignette freeway, he will be routed out of freeway on the first possible exit, and waze is not doing stupid things, like sticking to nearby offroads etc.
I believe that this setup will more likely cause drivers to actually start thinking why is it routing him/her out of freeway, instead of cursing on stupid illogical jumping on nearby segments.
It is only my recommendation to change vignette restrictions to our updated setup.
I remember you telling me about it in Tel Aviv, I spoke about it with our editors and we’ve already started to adapt our setup according to your example for Switzerland.
This idea makes a lot of sense and doesn’t change things for people who have added the pass anyway.
