On the drive home yesterday I noticed a Red Light Camera marker on the Dallas North Tollway and Lebanon up in Frisco TX. I live not to far from that area and drive by there all the time. I can assure you that there is no red light camera on that corner.
I tried to “click” on the camera to either vote it down or remove it, but nothing happens. It might be because I am still a baby wazer as it appears I don’t have the ability to vote anything down. I also looked on the “edit map” feature here on the web site but I don’t see it there either.)
If you’re seeing it on your phone, it should be on the edit map. Make sure you have the camera layer on to see it. However, you’re likely to have the baby wazer problem in the editor, as you can only delete the camera if it was confirmed by an editor of your editing rank or lower. If this is this case you can post a permalink and raise the issue in the update request subforum.
If the camera is truly not present in the edit map it is possible that someone already deleted the camera but the update hasn’t made it through the system to your phone yet.
Another option is to report a map issue from the location of the camera and put in some details that there is no red light camera there. A community map editor can then remove it.
Good point. I kind of forget this as it seems so unintuitive that if you enter a map update request an editor can see the issue, but hitting the “not there” button does nothing.
I don’t know why the not there button cannot place some type of notification in WME that a camera has been reported as not there. Basically the same concept as reporting a camera. Needing confirmation in WME.
Thanks for the info, I did not have the Camera Layer turned on… I did not notice the layer button the other day so I never clicked on it to see the choices. However, once I got there I could click on it, but I could not do anything.
I followed your link and posted a permalink on the update request forum. Actually, while typing this message I went back to the Edit Map page to see what I could do once I clicked on the camera icon and they have already been removed.
Sorry to piggyback on this thread but I can’t seem to get any help anywhere else. I found a problem red light camera (see attached screenshot) same as the original poster. The red light cameras were reported as being in the intersection of Columbia Pike and Blackburn Road in Burtonsville, MD. There are no red light cameras or speed cameras at that intersection, in either north or south directions.
When you drive through that intersection, waze does not alert you and does not even show the pop up box that gives you the “close” or “not there” options. I’ve tried reporting this as a map problem and I was referred to the map editor. Unfortunately, the intersection is locked and does not allow to be edited. I tried requesting an unlock in another forum but alas, my post seems to have been ignored.
That’s just a bit out of my area, so I can’t delete them. I believe that the reason that they are not giving any popups or warnings are that they are facing backwards on the split road. If a level(4) doesn’t come through here and offer to delete them, you might consider sending a PM to Alteria who created and confirmed those cameras to point out that they are not there.
Awesome, thanks CBenson and AlanOfTheBerg. Awesome quick responses. I see on the Live Map on the website that the cameras have been removed. However, I noticed that they’re still showing up on the waze map on my smart phone. Is this normal? Like some kind of update delay? If so, may I suggest that in the future all changes flow from the main site to the smartphones/tablets/etc instantaneously?
You may suggest, and many have, and even Waze has plans to make it much faster, but lots must change.
Also, consider that instantaneous updates would also be an immense burden on the Waze servers, network infrastructure, and yours and everyone else’s data plans. Each time someone hits save in the editor, your app would have to redownload the tile. I could make 5-10 saves within a single map tile in 30 minutes, thereby causing everyone’s phone to download that tile with each save. In areas being heavily edited, Waze might end up consuming over 1GB of your data plan during your commute to work depending on what’s being edited and where, how many people are editing and how many saves are being done.
The plan is for something in between “instant” and “3 weeks.” My opinion is that daily would be just fine.
