Yesterday (on 9/11) my apartment building was evacuated due to the discovery of a suspicious device. for more than 6 hours, the streets around my apartment building were closed. I volunteered to help redirect traffic (Hundreds of cars were using gps and their aps said to use the closed roads). Is there a way to report a ‘temporarily’ closed road (without being physically at the point of closure)? I tried to report it, but couldn’t figure it out. I saw on the iPhone app, I could report a closed lane (I guess on a multi-laned road), but I had to be physically at that location, and the police would not allow us to be there.
It is not uncommon for construction crews to close a turn around for just a few hours (which can be confusing for Waz users) - I have tried to report such lane closures in the past, but that is difficult to do via the phone/car app without being at the location and blocking traffic.
I don’t mind ‘pulling over’ to report a closure, but how do I do it?
The app is designed for Waze users to add road closures along their route. Tapping REPORT > CLOSURE will typically add a closure at the next junction on a user’s route, and create a new route that avoids that closure.
Partners and experienced map editors can use tools in the Waze Map Editor to add closures in real time in their editable area. To contact your local editors, you should check out your country/state category in the Map Editors Community section, or you can join the unofficial community channels for your local editors (usually Discord, Google Chat, Telegram, etc).
