Hwy 42 in Prairieville under change

Greetings all! I made the changes to the applicable intersections to only be able to make right hand turns as that is the stage of construction we are currently in. The Street gutters and curbs have been laid, although final construction is not complete, those trying to turn left are at a greater risk for being in a collision now than ever. I noticed that Waze was not updated and if residents use it to navigate as I do this will help ensure everyone’s safety.

Soon, we will need higher level assistance as the entire segment of Hwy 42 from Hwy 61 to Hwy 44 is changing to a divided 4 lane roadway. http://wwwapps.dotd.la.gov/administration/public_info/projects/home.aspx?key=57&fbclid=IwAR2HbZzg0iIXzkRfWYc54vUI-gVHUSJ9qBhr7arIQYqywSAIsVVDQWdJ3Oo

Chuck,

From what I read on the link you posted, this is the section of road that is undergoing expansion: https://www.waze.com/en-US/editor/?env=usa&lon=-90.94930&lat=30.31804&zoom=3&segments=20664374,20664857,20665156,20665163,64042083,64042084,64702023,67102802,68995157,68995158,71582152,76060625,76060655,83050892,83050893,85740932,85740933,507655999,507656000,511319077,511319080,511319081,511319082,517904888,517904889,511319092,507629356,512061646,512061647,64041927,64041928,20665175,507974035,507974034,507974026,20665591,20665176,63413313

Please look over the PL and let me know if that is correct. It sounds like quite a project. I will be more than happy to help you out with unlocks and making sure that it all makes sense. Please feel free to send me an email as you need unlocks and help: tcalvert317@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Ted

Ted,

Yes that is the section of road. How has the changes in Waze for these phased road changes been handled in the past? For instance currently feeder roads have had exits redesigned for right turns only but without the center median in place, left turns are still made. I ask because LaDoTD posted this upcoming change starting middle of next week:

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises that motorists will be shifted to the newly constructed outside eastbound and westbound lanes from Muddy Creek channel over the newly constructed 11x11 boxes to Woodhaven Drive. The transition will take place February 5, 2020. This will allow the contractor to begin removing the existing roadway in the center of LA 42. Motorists will not be allowed to make U-turns during the swap. The following day February 6, 2020 the contractor will mill several crossovers for U-turn maneuvers at the following locations:
• Manchac Acres
• Autumn View
• LA 930
• Lake Harbor

No permit or oversize loads greater than 10’ feet wide will be able to pass.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

As a general rule, we do not restrict turns that are legal to make, even when they can be dangerous in your view. Some drivers will complain that it is not dangerous, others will say it is. It could be an easy turn at 3am but next to impossible at 3pm. The question comes down to “is it legal” We do have the ability to mark a turn as “difficult” during certain times when traffic would make it next to impossible.
If the turns are not legal and/or have a barricade preventing the turn then it should be restricted.

My suggestion would be to allow the left turns but set the turn as difficult during busy drive times (maybe 6am to 6pm or something)

I completely agree with jm6087, and would be more than happy to help with those turns as the project progresses. A good rule of thumb is to make changes as soon as construction has resulted in changes that fundamentally change the way traffic flows. For instance, in the example jm6087 referred to, if a center median is put into place, then adjustments would need to be made so that a driver is not directed to turn left that would require going over a median. If drivers are simply shifted a few feet, but no fundamental changes are made, then we will leave it like it is.

I hope this makes sense.

Ted

The left turns have been eliminated. Curbs have been put in place along with no left turn signage. For the areas where the finished center median is not in place yet, it is because they have it barricaded off and are grinding off the old road now.

With that said, it is now separated into a complete street with only the single outside lanes open. So I need to have the segment unlocked to be able to modify. Thank you

Chuck,
I would like to help you with this, and I don’t mind unlocking. I would prefer to coordinate this with you in Discord. Here is a link to join: https://discord.io/waze-scr

Also, I would like you to take a peek at these before starting this kind of a significant edit:
