Waze declines to use the North and South Carriage drives, I guess because they’re set as private roads (though that doesn’t stop it in some other places). Try going from the Royal Albert Hall to the Dorchester Hotel and you’ll either get sent along Knightsbridge via the permanent traffic jam at Scotch Corner or have some fun and games round Paddington and Marble Arch. Both madness if you’re a private car, taxi or bike.
If I remember correctly those roads are shut at certain times of day/days of the week is that right? If so then in the good old days we had to choose between closing off roads completely (by making them private) or leaving them open the whole time (and therefore annoying people when they’re shut). Now of course we have the ability to set restricted hours of operation. Or I am entirely wrong (again!) about limited times of opening?
PS I assume your reference to being on a bike was purely an example, using Waze on a bike will screw with the traffic speed data - after all, you’ll be going twice as fast as the cars!
Hyde Park is closed midnight till 5AM, that includes West Carriage Road with which Waze has no problem. Permitted vehicles include private cars, TFL licensed taxis but no commercial or business vehicles. Actually it’s one of the few places in central London where you can go as fast as a motor bike
Yes, open 5AM - Midnight. The gates are hard on the Bayswater Road and Kensington Gore/Road,* - they can’t close Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens off without closing those gates.
*Knightsbridge/Kensington Road/Kensington Gore are wrongly named along the stretch between the barracks and Queens Gate I just noticed.
