Come on… Give me a few minutes to get to things around here…
Also, when did we start using the colon? Shouldn’t it be “to I-95 N / New Haven” and not “to I-95 N: New Haven”… That proposal didn’t pass if I remember correctly…
That wasn’t part of the proposal. The proposal was for the multiple colons. We’ve been putting the colon in the onramps for as long as we’ve been putting them in the offramps. I updated the Wiki because I thought it was an oversight.
That’s the first I’ve ever seen a colon on an on ramp… Every ramp I’ve seen & everything the wiki said up till your change was the slash… The only colon that I’ve ever been aware of was the one after an exit number (i.e. “Exit 43: Blah blah / blah blah”) We don’t even use it in an unnumbered ramp (i.e. “Exit to blah blah” and not “Exit to: blah blah”)…
Andy remembers correctly ;). Colons are only used in numbered offramps, right after the exit number; they have not been used in onramps at all, at least in the ten months that I’ve been editing.
Honestly, I like the colon in the off-ramp name as it looks cleaner. The (over) use of colons in the exit ramps was what I didn’t like. I admit I have several on-ramps around which do have the colon after the name before the control city.
You’d have a lot of work to fix over here in the NY area, well at least the ones you locked I could clean up the rest. At least for now it looks like it’s status quo.
Actually I think the colon before the control city looks nice, but it’s going to be a PITA to go back and change everything.
There is one ramp over here where I think it would clean things up, right now it’s something like (from memory):
to I-287 W / White Plains / Tappan Zee Brg / to I-684 / Brewster
with the colons it might make it a little more clear:
to I-287 W: White Plains / Tappan Zee Brg / to I-684: Brewster
