I am a truck drivers, how about adding stuff that would be more inviting to drivers like a way to convey whether weigh stations are open. Also sometimes there is a vehicle stalled on the road, not on the shoulder. No option for that. Lastly I started a group called Big Trucks Nationwide, when my friends try to join my group they can’t find it…Whats up??
For a vehicle stalled on the road you may consider reporting “Object on the road”.
The searchfunction for groups is a bit crippled - I think you can search for 1 word only - try “Nationwide”.
As to weighingstations: I have no clue if that is a big problem and affects many potential Wazers. For Waze, with its limited resources, it is always a consideration how many new Wazers they can “catch” with a new feature.
I think that the Trucker market is a HUGE one for waze. Truckers drive more miles & more hours than pretty much anyone else on the road & would be able to contribute more data than anyone else (even if they have a governor keeping their speed a little lower (cough SWIFT cough).
A few things have to happen first…
- Ability to set “Vehicle Type” in the app (i.e. “Car”, “Truck”, “Bus”, “Emergency Vehicle” [this one seems to be in most GPS units]) This may or may not effect the display vehicle, but will effect navigation)
- Road Restriction by Vehicle Type (i.e. A “No Trucks” flag to use on Parkways, are Buses and/or Motorcycles allowed in HOV lanes?).
- Weigh Station/Commercial Vehicle Inspection Indicator (only available & visible if “Vehicle Type” is set to “Truck” in the app)
- Height Restrictions on overpasses/tunnels/etc. would be a great addition too
That Emergency Vehicle type should have a side-effect of not generating Map Problems as all sorts of normal traffic restrictions can and will be ignored.
Ofcourse, for Emergency Vehicles, the “prefer cookiemunching” option should be suppressed at all times. ;^)
I love this app too! I would definitely like to see a “Car stopped” option in the road hazard sub-menu. Also, to have icons rather than a list would be especially useful while driving - sooo much easier. Here… I’ve whipped up a new sub-menu screen in Photoshop. Thanks!

There is currently a disparity between options available in the on-screen menu and those in the voice commands. See the voice commands list: http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22023.
We have repeatedly asked Waze why the difference between the two. It could be to keep the on-screen limited for safety reasons.
Sweet!
Thanks. Also note that “Oil spill” is changed to “Slippery”. Oil on the roadway is next to impossible to identify, but “Slippery” (or “Slippy” for our UK friends) can apply to any liquid, black ice, sand, gravel, or other things that have a like effect on a vehicle’s ability to grip to roadway.
