I cannot accept/reject suggestion in my area

Steps to reproduce this issue:
For some reason I cannot accept or reject this suggestion. I’m area manager in this area, level 5 editor, and I don’t see why the suggestion requires a higher level.

Hello @lg1992 ,

Thank you for sharing this problem.

Can I please ask if you would be able to share a screenshot or a screen recording of the problem? Also, it would be very helpful if you could add a map note for other editors to keep that UR open while we investigate the issue.

Thank you,
Kasia

Here’s the screenshot. I’ve also added a note.

Hi @lg1992,

Thank you for providing the screenshot. I have checked with the team. The suggestion you are attempting to submit involves adding a new city name, which requires Level 6 editor permissions. This is why you are unable to add it.

I will close this report as this is intended behavior.

But the suggested city name ספיר isn’t new. The nearby village is called ספיר on the map of Waze.

Hi @lg1992,

Thank you for the question; it is a reasonable one.

Let me explain: based on the backend response, when the suggestion was submitted, the city did not exist yet. So, even if it exists now, it is still only available for Level 6 editors to approve.

Let me know if you have any additional questons.

Nataliia

The problem is that the city name ספיר isn’t new, it’s there for years.

Let me check this with the team. Maybe for some reason it wasn’t included in the feature response at that point; when we asked the backend if that city exists, the backend replied that it doesn’t.

I will keep you posted on any updates.

Hi @lg1992,

The team checked the case and reply that the suggested city is פילו סנטר and not ספיר, a city which doesn’t exist.

I know that this city isn’t displayed in the suggestion card, which is misleading. This is another bug where this information is omitted under some conditions; I will file an internal ticket for this behavior.

I think the expected behavior in this case is that we should still be able to reject such changes (they are not applied to the map yet, so what’s the biggy to prevent from rejecting them). Approving on the other hand should strictly be available to editors with permission to perform the suggested action (if adding a city requires L6, then approving the suggestion should only be restricted to L6, just like it is today).

This is of course in addition to fixing the above mentioned bug, and adding some clarity to white the approval requires a higher rank.

Should we keep the suggestion open for further investigation?

Hi @lg1992,

No need to keep it open. We managed to recreate the problem on the testing environment. Thank you for checking!

I wanted to inform you that you can see the city פילו סנטר in the suggestion card under the following conditions:

Please ensure the map suggestions filter in the issue tracker is disabled, refresh the page, and then open the suggestion from the segment view.

Let me know if it worked for you.

When I select the segment, I don’t see any reference to the suggestion.

Hi @lg1992,

Note, the suggestion shows a new street name, not a city name. It shouldn’t prevent accepting or rejecting the suggestion.

Hi @lg1992,

I am back with updates. Regarding the visibility of the suggestion: you won’t be able to see it from the segment if you don’t have permission to edit it. I wasn’t aware of this limitation, but the team explained the logic behind it.

Regarding the change: it’s a good catch on your side that the type of change is displayed incorrectly. For this particular example, the card should indicate the “City Name” instead of the “Primary Street Name.” I have flagged this issue for the team.

I will keep you posted when I have any updates about the status of the issue.

Nataliia
