I am a Blue Badge holder in the London Borough of Islington (UK), and I wanted to raise an issue regarding LTN routing and accessibility. Recently, Islington Council updated its policy so that all Islington Blue Badge holders can apply for a borough-wide exemption to Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) restrictions, meaning any registered vehicle linked to a Islington Blue Badge holder can legally pass through traffic filters displaying the code “IBBH” (Islington Blue Badge Holders) across the entire borough, whereas previously this was limited to specific wards. The permit is enforced digitally via camera recognition, so there is no physical permit displayed in the vehicle. Currently, Waze treats these LTN roads as fully restricted and routes drivers away from them, however for Blue Badge holders with an approved IBBH permit these roads are legally accessible, which results in unnecessarily longer routes and reduced accessibility for disabled drivers, as the navigation does not reflect real-world legal access. This is no longer a small or localised exemption, as the IBBH permit now applies borough-wide across Islington and affects all Blue Badge holders living in the borough, and similar schemes may be adopted by other councils. I wanted to ask whether there is any way for Waze to support permit-based routing (such as Blue Badge or disability exemptions), account for exemptions like IBBH within map restrictions, or provide a user setting that allows routing through eligible restricted roads. For reference, here is a map showing the LTN filters in Islington: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?ll=51.54219439443358%2C-0.09966239216364858&z=13. This is an accessibility issue and improving this would significantly benefit disabled drivers across the borough. Thank you.
