L3+ please, new development off locked road

Can someone add this development please, off Legbourne Road, Louth, Lincolnshire. It should be applied on the site across the road from the Lavender Way entrance. I’ve tried attaching a photo, but it doesn’t work.

Yes, I know there’s a way of exactly identifying the location, but can’t recall how.

Many thanks.

Seems no-one is interested.

Thanks anyway.

Unfortunately attachments don’t seem to show up correctly in this forum.
The method for locating your connection point is called a ‘Permalink’.
On the editor a small symbol shaped like chain links together are what you need to access.
First select a road segment that you wish to connect to, then click on the chain symbol and follow through ‘sharing’ with the Update Forum.
Any problems post here again.

(I can’t do the business with the addresses you gave because I only edit in Surrey and surrounds.
You will be contacted by someone with rights in your area -----Soon.

Also can’t edit here but here are some links:

Can’t find a site plan so there’s not much to go off in terms of mapping it anyway.

You only posted the request half an hour previously. All the editors are volunteers and have jobs and lives outside of Waze. Expecting an almost-instant response is unrealistic. Patience is a virtue.

No Gareth, it was over a day earlier. If you look, the initial post was on Sunday and the comment you responded to was today, over a day later.

The ability to check you are right before sounding off incorrectly, is a virtue.

The problem with Waze is that not enough people are given adequate editing rights.
There are lots of roads in my area that connect to L3 locked roads and it’s actually massively easier to get them on Google maps.

The Permalink is as stated above. (Thanks L2 person for finding it).
The site plan is here: https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2018/07/approval-for-89-homes-in-louth/ (taken from the Local Authority website).

Thanks for the help with this, and extra thanks to anyone who succeeds in getting it mapped.

Oops. Apologies, only noticed the times, didn’t spot the date difference.

So are there are level 3 or above people willing to do this?!

Patience is definitely a virtue. It has been less than 41 hours since your initial post, in that time you have responded to your own post, which contained minimal information, twice making it look like this request was being dealt with.

We are all volunteers who are users who give up our spare time for the benefit of all other users without receiving anything in return but generally get plenty of abuse and complaints.

As Waze is a community managed map have you tried mapping this yourself? We have all learnt that the fastest way to get anything mapped in Waze is to do it yourself. If you have contacts in Google Maps or any of the major mapping services / sat-nav companies, do feel free reach out to them so you can get their immediate, undivided attention.

Waze gives everyone editing rights to areas they have driven, how this is inadequate is not clear. They have locks in place to protect the map against inexperienced editors or malicious damage to the busiest roads or critical features.

Those of us who have country wide access and can jump on any post will attempt to allow local editors to deal with changes first. You may be surprised to learn you are not the sole reason to edit the map, in fact the senior editors have spent the past 6 days dealing with the fallout of Waze dumping 25,000 points onto the map that all need reviewing and feedback providing. We have been on conference calls with Waze staff, testing out the processes and hastily writing guidance so that the UK Community can work as a team on an upcoming new feature of the app. All while also dealing with daily user reports on the map, managing closures, and updating our local areas along with all the small UK editing community, and having to work their normal schedules and live their own lives.

If you are unhappy with how quickly we can respond to you then I fully suggest you use an alternative navigation application. You may even wish to consider paying for a service to ensure you get instant customer support.

Oh, and I’ve mapped this development, as we have no way to know which roads are open to the general public or their road names, the mapping is pretty simple at this time.

That response is very typical of why so many people don’t persist in helping to improve the Waze map.

All you get is hassle, grief and long rants (yours being a fine example) from the higher level people, not a word of thanks. The Waze map is far worse than it was because of this.

You are right about one thing, Google (ironically the owners of Waze, as we know), respond far faster and as a result, Lincolnshire is far better mapped on there than it is on Waze. That is probably true of other areas too. As a result, I don’t use Waze much and my driving areas are “patchy”. I personally think people should have editing rights within 5 miles (say) of their current location. They are likely to be familiar with those areas even if they haven’t actually driven there using Waze!

Anyway, hint taken. I’ll leave you guys to crack on with it and take your frustrations out on other volunteers.

Well… i think Chris’s response is justified. To be honest, as it may not be what you want to hear, i was also like you in my early days of editing, getting no responses for hours or days thinking of what is the point of editing when i get no reply.

I may not be the best example to provide this explanation as i am only a Level 2 editor but this is from my Point of View (POV) on this situation.

However, as time has gone on, i still have edited the map to what i like, the more you drive the more areas you gain access to edit correctly btw, (found out the hard way…). I personally make edits and then request for segments to be connected or reviewed whenever that occurs.

For example, i once made a segment (road name, speed limit, numbers etc) and waited a whole week for a senior editor to connect this for me, i had no issue of waiting as the segment was already created and was on the map but not usable in any state until it was connected but at least it was ready to go live between 24-48 hours once approved.

To this day, i still make forum posts which take a few days at some time to get to (still currently have many unsolved/answered topics). I haven’t complained to anyone, i occasionally after many days if it is urgent try ot bring it back or provide a follow-up message to any of my PM/DM volunteers aiding in my WME journey.

As Chris stated, patience is very important, Waze is community-based to keep it up-to-date taking a lot of time out the day to help the map improve. For example, lets say the new EV update coming into Waze, there time has increased to fix those alongside other WME things.

Users get the areas they can edit based on thier level alongside where they have driven, I’m only level 2 and i can get 2 miles from my location, but i have covered my whole TOWN because i drive around over time… not hard if you have some free time or just over time go around the local area… but what can i say LOL.

Well, the proper mapping of areas depends on how many local volunteers there are and are willing to contribute to make it mapped to what it should be. For example, my local town from both myself and Scott and a lot of other people who i may not be aware of apart from any AM, CM etc, but great job from everyone, have been mapping the area extensively which at the moment looks far much better then it did many months ago, with a lot of new additions and corrections made, making the area much more improved and reliable. There is no one stopping in making the edits, they just have to be accurate alongside waiting on a response from the senior editors in the forum. (what i have said in this whole thing may not be the best example from other peoples views, but just from my POV of how i see your response back)

The reason on for example google being so active is because they are PAID employees which may monitor just edits from users and publish them, whereas Waze is UNPAID and VOLUNTEERING. However, you stated for example Google are much quicker. I disagree, i still have requested edits (nearly 100 since Q3 22 till recent still not been published or rejected/no feedback).

As in my view, this has become an addictive hobby which i spend my spare time volunteering to help Waze in any way. Althoughh in the past it may =not have been the best, i see slight improvements over the time.

Ironically I’ve been using screenshots of WME as reference for the Google maps edits I request. Waze is probably as accurate a road map as you can get in the UK

Please take the time to properly read the response and understand the points it was making. Whilst its tone may not have been all dancing unicorns and fluffy bunnies, it was merely to the point and borne out of the frustration many of us feel when our efforts as volunteers (this is a point which CANNOT be stressed enough) aren’t considered good enough, especially when the threshold for coming to this consideration is having not received any responses within a 24 hour period.

Yes, you might well know the area within 5 miles of your current location like the back of your hand and wish you could just jump in and start editing without any further ado, but is it really that much effort to plan a quick drive/walk/bus ride/etc out to those areas with Waze running in order to add them to your editable area? Given the amount of problems we’ve faced in the past from people trying and failing to edit the map data correctly within even just the more limited radius they’re granted either side of a road they’ve driven along perhaps once in their life, there’s a good reason why this limit exists.

Google Maps, hmm…Capture.PNG

Meanwhile, thanks to the efforts of the editor you’re happy to criticise here, this estate will appear in the Waze app (barring any server issues) around 48 hours after its existence became known to us - I’m not sure what more you could reasonable expect…

As someone else has noted, whilst Google Maps will sometimes action changes PDQ, this is far from being true in all cases - leaving aside those changes I’ve submitted which were rejected entirely for no good reason, my current personal record for time taken between telling them about an error and it being corrected was something like 6 months to get a street name corrected.

A bloody STREET NAME, the correct spelling of which was clearly visible in their own Street View imagery and ought therefore to have been verified and actioned almost as soon as one of the faceless & nameless beings behind the scenes had read my request and done the bare minimum of due diligence required to see that it was indeed indicating a genuine error in their map data.

In contrast, every edit made to the Waze map data in the past 4-5 years is recorded and made available in the object edit history within WME, showing WHO made the edit and WHEN. Editors aren’t completely anonymous - whilst we don’t have to use our real names, we DO still have to have a unique editor name against which anything we do is logged, so unlike GMaps and other nav systems where you have no idea who you’re dealing with when you report an issue, Waze is an open book - behind every user name is a real human playing their part, big or small, it doesn’t matter, in helping to make the Waze map data genuinely world class.

Do we always get things right? Hell no, that’d be a ridiculous thing for any of us to claim, which is why we don’t try to do so. All we do claim, with good reason, is that in general we’re better than the rest, because in general we can respond PDQ once we become aware that something needs attention - see above. As a result of the dedication and effort put in by so many editors of all levels of ability, Waze has become a genuinely respected name in mapping/navigation not just from its ordinary end users, but also from organisations who’ve turned to Waze rather than other providers because, you know what, we really ARE that good.

So if you genuinely believe otherwise, then fair enough, that’s your choice to make. Just don’t expect those of us who give up our precious free time and energy for Waze to want to expend much, if any, of it on helping you when you seem only too happy to regard our efforts as second-rate and barely worth bothering with at all. There are countless other users out there who very much are appreciative of what we do, and are more willing to help us continue making things better through providing constructive feedback whenever they see something that doesn’t look right. Play nice with us and we’ll play nice in return. Treat us like crap, and well, the door is over thataway, try not to let it smack you in the arse as you leave…

Just to add to everything, i couldnt emphasise or agree more than what -> Myself, atrophicshiner, Twister-UK have stated above. So please, take the time to read all of our point collectively and take that in. Just to add to Twister-UK, about the Google Maps. I mean heck, this is a story. There is this new estate for example being built of Royle Rd, and i have requested the changes to Google Maps, where 2 times it has been rejected and the 3rd time i even emailed and provided documentation to the references of the area being developed.

I got a pending investigation email, never heard back been several months now. Whereas, in Waze. I had manually input the estate which went live within 48hours so when everything is up and running, just needs setting to Street and boom, added. Unlike Google Maps this hasn’t been the case. I have had many issues with Google Maps edits being rejected and it self Google Maps is not as reliable, Street Names are even incorrect like WOAH. Road geometry is wrong and unmessary roads added cluttering the map, which serve no purpose such as back roads to people gardens which are gated. (although not best example to use as different product portfolio but i hope my point comes across).

I myself am not saying i am any better than anyone at WME. I mean heck no, but what i have been given is termoundous amount of support and guidance, as what Twister-UK said about WME being opn-book and previous edited history being made available, it allowed well myself to get those terrifying i must say messages from AM or CM or higher about my previous behaviours…

I couldn’t justify more than what Twister-UK said. Also, as we are all volunteers here who give up spare time just to help Waze become better then it currently is and make sure any issues are resolved is a task and half in its own way. For myself, this feels like an unpaid 24/7 job, it has become a part of my daily routine to make sure everything is kept up-to date such as my proclaimed daily posts of Road Closues for example and many more hahaha hahaha. To which i have to constantly remind myself to get off and continue with my Uni studies of Computer Science which is a hassle… Please, take all of our responses and maybe listen… :?
