L3 - Updating road closures Headington Oxford

The following three road closures need slight adjustments applying:

https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lon=-1.22813&lat=51.76673&s=3326082519&zoom=6&segments=121951241,121952489,121951240

These three roads are all still closed, but it is not the whole road. Only the access at each roads intersection with Headley Way is inaccessible, and it’s only around the first 20 metres or so, as these areas are being used for storage of works equipment. The remaining length of all three roads is fully open and fully accessible from the Eden Drive.

I feel with this being the case, all houses on the majority of the roads should be navigable from the Eden Drive end, which won’t be the case currently with the entire roads being marked as closed.

Also, as per one.network, the end dates for the closures have slipped slightly.

Derwent and Coniston is now until 6th April, and Bowness is until 3rd April.

Can these closures please be amended to reflect this?

HI Ian. I’m afraid the closures can’t be amended as you ask.

Only a complete segment can be closed in Waze and we can’t close turns. In addition, only a segment as already updated to the live map can be closed. We could split these segments to only close part of them, but we’d have to remove the closures first. Having done that & split them, the segments will have new IDs and we won’t then be able to close them until the map updates, which means that for a couple of days, nothing will be closed at all.

It’s because of this that we very rarely split segments to close part of them. The major consideration has to be given to Waze users routing through this area, who won’t know it well. On their behalf, we close entire segments. The only users who will have a problem with this is users on the segments that are themselves closed. Because they live there, they will know about the closures and how to get around them.

That makes sense - thanks for the clear explanation.

Can the closures dates be extended as per one.network? Obviously not being L3 yet I’m not aware of how adding/editing closures works, so am not sure whether it’s a simple job to extend the expiry date or not!!

Changing closures is easy - all done.

Roger that!
