L4 to L3 - removal of roundabout, A3020, Newport, IoW

Hi,

The works to replace the St Mary’s roundabout in Newport, Isle of Wight, have got the stage of now having a temporary traffic light controlled junction in place, so I’d like to remove the roundabout and set up the new layout. To do that I need the roundabout and approach roads lowered to L3 so I can edit.

The link is https://www.waze.com/editor?env=row&lon=-1.29961&lat=50.70797&s=104176917&zoom=6&segments=257640992

Thanks,
Kieron

All down to L3. Let me know when you are finished.

Done. Feel free to double check it. When they have finished it, I’ll add some of the left hand slips that are proposed.

All looks OK. Relocked.

Hi,
Unfortunately there is something wrong there as routes going northbound through the crossroads are not being made. I think it’s the closure on Parkhurst Road, as all the turns to go north straight through the junction are allowed. I’ve made a UR, as has someone else, as the routes from Waze are now a big drive around Newport.
Could you unlock the northbound carriageway and the Parkhurst Road turn, or remove the closure on just that Parkhurst Road segment that joins the A3020 and is the left turn going north?
Thanks,
Kieron

You have closed the node on the A3020, preventing routing across the junction. Please ensure you check which nodes are being closed when closing multiple segments at the same time.

Thanks for fixing it.

Hi,

The roadworks are nearing an end, and I am removing some of the closures from the map. I can’t remove one - selected here - https://www.waze.com/editor?env=row&lon=-1.29966&lat=50.70794&s=1144364503&zoom=7&segments=121058063 as it is locked at L4. As this is now an unclassified road, can it be permanently downleveled?

Also, there are side link roads for some of the left turns. Can the A3020 through here be unlocked to L3 please, and I’ll add those.

Thanks,
Kieron

I have lowered the side road and the main road. Please let me know when you are finished and I will re-lock them.

Thanks for that.

I’ve added the relevant slip roads. I’ve also added lanes and lane guidance, as there are already reports of old people going up incorrect carriageways on Facebook, so it can be confusing. Please can a senior editor review, as these are my first LG settings. For reference, there are some good shots of the new junction on this news article - https://www.countypress.co.uk/news/18890506.completed-st-marys-roundabout-aerial-views/.

Thanks,
Kieron

Please review your turn arrows, irregardless of lane guidance you have turns enabled as well as mapping dedicated turn segments.

This will also fix the incorrect lane guidance mapping for these segments, the black exclamation and grey arrows means it will not show in the client app, you should never have a situation where one of the turns has no checkmarks. You can remove the lane guidance from the 2 entry segments (permalink above) of this #-junction as they add nothing to the 2nd lane guidance where the actual difference in lanes is already mapped.

Also this lane guidance can be removed as it will never show to users, LG shouldn’t be mapped when there is only 1 possible direction of travel (unless part of heuristic mapping).

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve made the suggested edits to the lanes and the turns. Please check and lock if it’s all okay.
Kieron

Looks much better  I’ve also removed the names from the dedicated turn segments, Waze will pick up the correct name from the next segment along so these don’t usually get named. Same with the 4 segments that make up the square of the # layout.

Lane Guidance should work with the current mapping.

Thanks. I’ve made a few trips through it so far where the LG has appeared. Mostly seems fine, except coming north up the dual carriageway and going straight on didn’t trigger any LG, but that could have been the default simple behaviour.
Kieron

Correct, you won’t get any LG unless Waze gives you a turn instruction, there are options to override this so LG is shown be not heard or even force it to show and provide a verbal instruction, however you should be careful how these are mapped as they can confuse things, especially when junctions are close together.
