L5 Hampshire

A UR is requesting a L5 places a junction box. They have supplied some comprehensive information.

Thanks
Dave

I’m not entirely clear which segments the reporter thinks need to be in a JB, or why they think the ETAs are wrong.

I’ve put a note on the UR asking them to come here - a User Report isn’t really the best place to discuss it.

Thank you Iain.

I often travel across these junctions and when heading W to E on Brownhill Way there is often a long queue in the right hand lane waiting to turn into Lower Brownhill Rd as traffic nips past in the left lane. I wonder if that is the issue the reporter is concerned about.

Is the junction box system used in the UK at the moment?

Dave

We do use Junction Boxes - sparingly.

The principle behind JBs is sound and they do work now, having got beyond initial teething problems. And until recently, they prevented all edits within them, without it being clear what happened to the JB data if you removed it to edit.

My biggest personal problem with JBs - which I freely admit - is that I had no idea whatsoever how to set them up. Last time I tried I found the UI completely incomprehensible. But since the new WME pop-ups for turn arrows have appeared, it seems they’ve used these for activating a choice of routes through a JB. It suddenly “clicked” with me and I feel happy I can set one up.

I’d still like to hear from the reporter who left the UR - it’s a good opportunity to get what may be a new editor involved in the community. But nudge me if we haven’t heard in a couple of days and I’ll set one up. Your personal experience is exactly what we need - it’s a good justification for a JB.

No follow up from the reporter Iain. Would you like to set it up?
Dave

Fair enough. It won’t do any harm as all routes are valid and there are no choices.
