Good evening!
When someone has some spare time, please could they make the necessary adjustments to the M3/M27 around here-ish following cancellation of the smart motorway upgrade works.
Obviously there’s a vast amount of segments and cameras as the changes span several junctions, so it’d probably take me longer to create links than it would for someone to just work through them systematically.
There’s been a few URs along this stretch of road, with one person providing a nice detailed reply to reinforce what National Highways have announced very recently. I’ve not been along here for a several weeks now, so it didn’t click in my brain that the work was being cancelled.
From the user:
“The M3 J14 link from the M27 (westbound) no longer has active average speed cameras and is now subject to the national speed limit between the M27 J4 northbound and the M3 J13 northbound. Other aspects of the M3 works between J13 and J9 appear to be nearing completion in both directions. I haven’t traveled eastbound on the M27 to the M3 northbound in the past few days, but it would appear that the restrictions there have also been removed.”
Reinforced by National Highways as of 10th July:
Link to webpage - “We’ve started to remove our traffic management on the southbound stretch [of the M3] between junctions 11 and 14 and bring some sections back to national speed limit. We’re about to start the same on the other side of the carriageway heading northbound which requires some overnight closures.”
Thanks in advance
I have reset the speed limit on these 5 segments between M27 and M3 J13, and removed cameras.
Thanks Tim.
I’ll hopefully be traveling through there in a week or two anyway, so once I do I’ll report what I find (unless further URs provide updates in the meantime).
Hi @Timbones
I’ve had a UR confirming that the northbound ASZ is now gone completely between 13 and 12, but is still in place between 12 and 11.
Unfortunately they couldn’t confirm anything for the southbound side. I’ve got quite a few URs along the s/b side, but they seem to mostly be TNAs (possibly related to the slip closure). As of this post, I’ve had no responses yet.
So I guess that means the following can be done (but correct me if I’m wrong!):
Remove ASZ, and return to 70mph:

Remove 4 ASZ cameras:

Hi again!
Another update if possible please.
A reporter has stated that the ASZ is now gone up to J11, but is still in place from J11 northbound. I’m tempted to leave this camera in place for now, but this may now require a segment split so that the section before can be returned to 70…
Remove ASZ, set to 70mph (split segment at camera to retain ASZ to the north?):
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=51.02569&lon=-1.32892&marker=true&zoomLevel=16&segments=160982723
Remove cameras:
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=51.01616&lon=-1.34222&marker=true&zoomLevel=17&cameras=16165338
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.99898&lon=-1.35719&marker=true&zoomLevel=18&cameras=16165334
Thanks!
I’ve removed ASZ up to J11. I decided not to split the last segment, as it’s not far from the junction, and will likely be removed soon anyway.
Me again!
Could you please remove the ASZ and cameras on the southbound side, and return them to 70mph (up to J11 as before).
Thanks!
Thanks Tim.
I haven’t had anything to confirm either way as of yet regarding the M27, so I’m hoping that either a UR appears that provides info, or NH get back to me to confirm. I have sent NH a message asking for an update on what has actually been done so far.
Also, I noticed that these two slip roads are still showing as 50mph and ASZ: https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.99423&lon=-1.35317&marker=true&zoomLevel=16&segments=137510775,121113012
If I hear anything else in the meantime I’ll update this thread.
Thanks
Can I get this segment back to 70mph and remove ASZ please? https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.95721&lon=-1.40009&marker=true&zoomLevel=18&segments=292901486
NH (unsurprisingly) didn’t provide any precise information as to what they’ve already done, so it looks like we’ll be waiting for URs in the meantime.
(deleted post as I’m now waiting for confirmation on whether a section has returned/is still part of ASZ contrary to multiple URs over the past week…)
Another update if I may @Timbones
Based on URs and conversations with reporters who replied, this should be the next set of changes. Basically everything south of J12 in both directions:
Remove ASZ, return to 70mph:
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.97119&lon=-1.37587&marker=true&zoomLevel=17&segments=148562222,121126059,145097274,384256552
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.95936&lon=-1.39223&marker=true&zoomLevel=17&segments=420030249,188959572
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.96567&lon=-1.38197&marker=true&zoomLevel=17&segments=257031409
Remove camera:
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=50.95930&lon=-1.39469&marker=true&zoomLevel=18&cameras=16165336
Annoyingly, despite some URs suggesting the contrary last week, it seems the ASZ still exists somewhere within these segments below (based on details from a couple of reporters). So until this can be pinpointed, it may be worth putting it back on these two segments for now?
Set to 50mph and ASZ ?:
https://waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lat=51.00264&lon=-1.35357&marker=true&zoomLevel=16&segments=160982723,160982721
Unfortunately I’m not able to visit this area in person for at least another week or two, as I’m now working Brighton direction rather than Southampton next week
Thanks!
