It’s about preventing bogus traffic reports that make Waze look bad, rather than map problems which normal users don’t see.
There’s a simple solution to misplaced labels - leave curving landmarks un-named. Don’t really need them for railways, as they’re pretty obvious anyway.
I’m pretty sure iOS attaches the label to the landmark. I’ve never seen a railway landmark label away from the landmark in the way it is shown in the android screenshot. I blame google
Sounds like you’ve got all the info to add this to the Wiki Tim
One extra thing, any wiki entry needs to define the correct format for adding the phone number for Petrol station landmarks (as me, Tim and Teej were all doing different!)
I vote for +44 1234 567890 (note the proper spacing here) except where it’s a non geographic and then use 0800 123456 etc.
I really don’t see the necessity for deciding this now. We don’t know how Waze will be presenting this data (if at all), or who would be dialing petrol stations anyway. Waze might sort out the number format automatically (unlikely), or they might be for some other purpose (like matching to an external source).
(Also, this is outside the scope of the Wiki, as most editors aren’t able to access this feature yet).
Nevertheless, I think it would be a safe assumption that Waze are going to use only the data we provide, so getting it right first time is a must. +44 and 08 it looks like.
That’s my point. We don’t. We don’t even know if or when the gas price feature will be made available to us or how it will work, and so until then I’m only adding a handful of stations for testing purposes. If I need to go back and update the phone numbers, I know where they are.
Let’s try and get the other landmarks types sorted first; how they’re drawn and labelled.
I have spent most of they day on IRC in conjunction with Timbones (and anyone else who popped in) bouncing ideas back and forth and looking at various forum threads.
Love the page Dave, it solves a few questions i have been wondering.
the only thing i would debate is the size of named roundabouts. Near me i know of a few that are about 20-25m that are named on the approaching road signs.
That’s why it had the comment in red, I’m not sure either. I just know that on some of the smaller ones the name can stop you from seeing where you are going!
There’s a few comments in red on the landmarks page, these need answers so speak your mind!
