Level 3 Change Request, Coquitlam BC

Hi,

I came over the Port Mann this morning to go SB on United Blvd. The directions were correct on the map, but there were no verbal prompts to keep right at two nodes on the route. Permalinks are below with the two segments selected:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.82494&lat=49.22827&zoom=6&layers=933&segments=75849661,75849662&env=usa

Thanks,
Kayos

What is wrong with the Keep Right prompt?
The road is split at this off ramp and there are two options.

Cheers,
HM.

So the screen showed “Keep right” but you didn’t hear the device say it?

Did you check your volume settings and mute setting in Waze?

Hi doctorkb,

There is nothing wrong with the directions, just no verbal directions from my device at both of these nodes. Other directions were fine and heard so volume and mute settings are ok.

Kayos

doctorkb’s question was if it possible that your device voice wasn’t sound because the volume was down, and I will add also a possibility that the App volume settings are set to “No” or “Alerts only”.
Can you verify this please?

Thanks,
HM.

I think I found the issue.

At the second permalink in the OP, the right-side was almost 0 degrees from the preceding segment.

I’ve made this an obvious fork and also titled the segments correctly.

Kayos: are you in this area often? Can you test it again after a map tile update?

I had a Wazer in Toronto complained recently on navigation guidance showing on screen but no matching voice prompts.
After Kayos confirmation we can see if he is the second user who have this issue.

Cheers,
HM.

Sure thing. I thought he said he heard voice instructions for other turns, so I set to work fixing the issue.

Thanks doctorkb. It will be a couple or three weeks before I’m back on that route, but I’ll check it as soon as I can and repost back here.

HM, my app was working fine and the routing from the server was also good, just no verbal prompt at these two nodes. Volume OK, not on mute, and app sound settings is set to Sounds on. For someone not paying attention or not really knowing where they are going, they could end up on the wrong ramp. Also, voice prompts are important because on my phone Samsung SIII, if I receive calls that last longer than the lock screen timeout, then when the call is terminated the phone is locked. Verbal directions are still provided, but the screen is blank and I have an 8 character password, so not too safe (and illegal) to unlock it again.

I’m also using the same model phone and hate this auto lock by Samsung after you receive a call.
Safety first so I understand your pain.

Let’s wait for you to confirm back in 3 weeks and see if the problem is fixed or not.
If this happened again somewhere else please also let us know, as we can try to connect some dots and see if this is a wider problem or not.

Cheers,
HM.

Sure thing & thanks.

Hi all,

I came over that same route this morning and the change for the second road split worked and I was given a “stay to the right” verbal instruction. The signage for this exit does not include Mary Hill Bypass, so that can be deleted from the segment name. Here is the permalink again:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.82445&lat=49.23458&zoom=6&layers=933&segments=68009534&env=usa

Can you make the same change to the other ramp split as this did not provide verbal directions:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.82445&lat=49.23458&zoom=6&layers=933&segments=68009534&env=usa

There may also be another ramp split on HWY 91 that needs to have the same treatment, but I need to check that. If I find that is the case there also, I’ll start a new thread for it.

Thanks,
Kayos

Those were the same permalink…

BTW: where are you at for edit count?

Sorry, I thought I changed the permalink. Try this one…

https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.82588&lat=49.22931&zoom=4&layers=933&segments=75849662&env=usa

For map edits, my dashboard shows 1925.

Thanks,
Kayos

Gotcha.

I’d love to, but I need to know what the sign says.

This decision point is the sign that we’re looking for:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.8241&lat=49.22836&zoom=7&layers=933&env=usa&segments=75849661,75442047,75849662

We don’t get a keep right because these two have the same name:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.8241&lat=49.22836&zoom=7&layers=933&env=usa&segments=75849661,75849662

OK, for that decision point, I think the ramp to the left is signposted “Hwy 7 New Westminster” and the ramp to the right is signposted “Hwy 7 Coquitlam”.

However, that’s from memory and I feel I need to have another look to confirm. I’m thinking of getting a dashcam, as I realise it makes things like this a lot easier. Any suggestions as to which camera?

Yeah, that would make things easier.

I would say you can’t go wrong with the GoPro. It seems to be pretty standard for video these days.

Hi,

I drove through here this morning to verify signpostings for this decision point. The ramp to the left is “Burnaby HWY 7 West” and to the right is “Coquitlam HWY 7 East”. Pretty simple signs, the only other verbiage is “City Center” in smaller font after Coquitlam, but I don’t think that is really necessary.

Thanks,
Kayos

All fixed up!
