Level 4 Parking Lot Roads

Can someone explain why a parking lot road would need a level 4 lock? Especially when most of the Major Highway the parking lot road is connected to is only at a level 3? Also why is a 17 meter segment of this Major Highway a level 4 and the rest is a level 3 right at the point where the parking lot road connects to the highway?

A Permalink would be helpful so we might be able to answer the question.

While there is one specific location that annoyed me I’ve found things like this in several locations. I’m fairly new around here and want to learn why certain things are the way they are. I’m a level 3 editor and intend on advancing further. So if locking a parking lot road has a valid reason for being locked at a high level I want to know. The Wiki says: Locking should otherwise be used on high-value roads and complicated junctions to prevent inexperienced lower rank editors from making changes. I can’t imagine that parking lot roads are normally high value. I hope to be a level 4 rank sooner rather than later and then I’ll just fix it myself.

Yes that is why I asked if you have a permalink. This can then help to determine who locked and possibility of why it was locked. I know that sometimes there is a battle between lower rank editors so a higher rank will help and put a lock on it stops the battle. Keep in mind we have no means to really know who deleted a segment, so locking it would stop the Parking Lot Road from being deleted by a lower rank.

And don’t take it personally. Even at level 5, there are bad and good editors (I hope I am on the good side).

There are times when, even in a parking lot, a turn in or out takes a lot of investigating. In that case, a lock can be seen as the value of time and effort put into a segment. Before I change a segment, I try to look at the lock level. If it is high, then I make sure to “cross all my t’s and dot my i’s” before making a change.

Just my $0.02.

@Puddles2475, I appreciate you responding to U.R.s (User Reports). Hopefully, it will help knock down the number that is outstanding, which I think is the highest it has been since I have been around. Let me know if you need any help.

Well I guess you never know what went on in the past. I’m just in my first year as a member of the Waze community and have found this…well I don’t want to say fun but interesting. The one thing I don’t want to do is burn any bridges before I even get started by suggesting that a higher ranking editor did something wrong or sloppy when in the grand scheme of things it is really pretty minor.

But ok here goes

Don’t hate me

On that parking lot segment, I modified the rank level down to 3, so you can edit it.

Who knows who’s changed what in the past. Unfortunately, there isn’t a log of changes for a particular segment. Hopefully in the future, that will be addressed.

When I edit, I try to leave the map in a better place than what it was. But we are all human and make mistakes from time to time. I have from time to time done some boneheaded edits. So, #%$& happens!

You’ll find a lot of R3 locked PLR in the Denver/Boulder/Longmont triangle if the PLR is the origin of a turn restriction. There really shouldn’t be any R4 locked PLR so please permalink any you come across.
