KISS Currently (as of 2025) the Waze map of Ghana is edited based on satellite photos, feedback from Wazers in Ghana (Update Requests, URs) and other available sources like street view. Few editors are actually driving in Ghana. Therefore the KISS principle should be followed. (KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid). Elaborate intersections with lane guidance and other bells and whistles is difficult to make perfect without being there. And complexity adds probability of making errors. ROADS Road quality - all roads are «paved»: It is difficult to judge road quality from satellite photos. In addition road quality will change over time and the satellite photos are not always up to date. Therefore the «unpaved» check box should be left unused in Ghana. If you come across an «unpaved» road, please uncheck this. Scattered «unpaved» segments have strange effects on routing. It can be decided to start using this setting in the future, but until then we let the route speed statistics handle road quality. Now and then there are URs reporting of extremely poor, undrivable roads. When this happens, make a map note referring to the UR and change affected segment to “off-road / not maintained”. Lock level: Generally there is no problem with low level editors doing strange things in Ghana. In many cases roads are unchanged since they were drawn 10 years ago even at L1. The errors I find in the map are made by the editors actually editing, who are high level editors. To encourage editing in Ghana, it should be possible to edit as much as possible as L1. Currently (2025) there are roads in Ghana locked at higher levels and such roads are being unlocked (not locked) according to this scheme: Street: L1 Primary street: L1 or L2 Minor highway: L2 (or also L1 in rural areas) Major highway: L3 (or also L2 or L1 in rural areas) Freeway: L4 (or also L2 - L3 in rural areas) So if you come across a Freeway segment locked at L1 and untouched since 2016, don’t lock it! Functional road classes and Road Types: The Ghana Highway Authority, https://www.highways.gov.gh/road_net has maps of Ghana showing road classes: TAH: - Trans African Highway. This is the network of main roads in Africa. always «Freeway». N - Main national roads in Ghana, N1, N2 etc. Currently «Freeway» in Waze IR - Inter Regional roads - IR3 etc - Currently «Major Highway» in Waze R - Regional trunk roads - R40, R20 etc - Currently «Major Highway» in Waze
