I’m getting a very low response rate when asking for further details on URs - perhaps less than 10%. Consequently I’m closing a great many URs as unidentified.
Is it just me, or is everyone seeing the same?
Is there a problem with messages not reaching the OP, or their replies not reaching us? I do mention to reply through the waze app, not by email.
I think one of the issues is that when you get a notification in the app that someone has responded to your UR, when you click on the notification nothing happens…you have to then find your Inbox and open the message. A lot of casual users won’t know that, or won’t go the bother of doing it. There is some discussion here: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=243841&start=200. To be honest, I (like most editors I guess) don’t actually raise URs so I’m not familiar with the process.
And also if you try to view the issue as a new user in the Editor, the UR layer is switched off by default so you can’t see your UR
Also I think in the past (I can’t remember ) you could register with just your phone number? Meaning its not possible to receive comments on URs…but I might be dreaming.
Anyway, you’re not alone, 10% response rate would be good in my patch. I do find that the quicker you can respond, the better. People will have either forgotten or don’t care much anymore after a few days.
We’ve always had a low response rate, HQ tried to improve it with the ‘new message’ pop-up when you open the app, they have also been made aware of the map layer when following the email link, finger crossed this may be fixed or soon.
You have to remember that the vast majority of users don’t treat the app as a social/community tool but simply the same as any other commercial product. I’m about to hit 20,000 closed URs, if 10% of them lead to map improvements then I’m happy, all URs raised get us to look at the local areas and enable us to spot issues even if they aren’t the reported cause.
Indeed titchy_, you wouldn’t want to know how many we have unanswered throughout the country. The champs try their best to answer as many as we can. My aim is to get them down to 14 days, across the board, which is what it was like during the first lockdown when it went quiet. This latest lockdown hasn’t had the same effect.
I was having a look at London earlier today, its a nice hue of yellow, orange and red. I used to try to help out there pre-Covid, but as I was L3 I was limited in what I could do as most streets inside the M25 are auto locked at 4. Bring on the vaccine, I can start travelling again…
It’s a shame more people can’t help. I really wish there were fewer restrictions in Waze. I get the segment locks to an extent but areas seem silly to me. I can’t edit Sunderland but if I happen to pass through it one day I can. Doesn’t necessarily mean I’m any more familiar with the area.
Unfortunately, like many I suspect, I work from home these days so my driving area and editing area are much of the same thing.
Waze needs to find a way where trusted, willing volunteers can do more by adding value to areas that need attention. I find at times that constantly working within the same editing areas can be demotivating.
