Lucretia Rd, Seven Hills, New South Wales Unlock request

Hi Editors,

I would like to be able to edit the following segments.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Permalink: https://waze.com/en-AU/editor?env=row&lat=-33.79124&lon=150.93575&marker=true&zoomLevel=19&segments=301362848,301362852,301402936
Reason: these three segments need to be duplicated and divided as road has a concrete median that prevents turn-in to residential addresses
Unlock to level: 1

Thank you in advance,

Considering the advice (pros/cons) in https://www.waze.com/wiki/Australia/Dividing_roads, do you think that dividing these segments is beneficial or not-beneficial? What would you consider the arguments for and against?

Regards

Tim

If these segments met the criteria for dividing: https://waze.com/en-AU/editor?env=row&lat=-33.78615&lon=150.92934&marker=true&zoomLevel=18&segments=399019148,399019268,399019269

Then the other three I listed on the same road would also.

Either the first set of segments should be divided, or the segments I listed above should be merged?

That’s a fair point (although it ignores the existence of edits that don’t meet criteria), and consistency is generally a good thing, but it doesn’t answer my question. I was asking you to evaluate the scenario and the rules and principles.

Arguments for dividing:

  • Meets criteria, consistency with the other segments that you mentioned.
  • Clear separation of GPS tracks on two of the segments

Arguments against dividing:

  • Stated advantages “Stops premature arrival notification when a u-turn across a median is required to reach the address.” and “Improves start of route behaviour with the car pointed the correct direction.” isn’t advantages on northern two of the segments - origin/destination points are non-existent or vanishingly rair.
  • Stated disadvantages “Potentially longer driving when a driver could easily u-turn or walk across a road.” - also noting proximity to a roundabout, “Significant increase in the number of segments, junction boxes, turns and turn instructions to manage” and “Increased points of failure for an intersection to be broken.”

Another question to consider: will the roundabout work better, worse or unchanged if the Lucretia Rd segment is divided?

Are there other factors to consider?

Did you notice that I didn’t say “no” to the unlock request (unlike the Cornelia Rd request)? For this request I can see arguments both ways - but I wanted to know if you also saw them? With new editors - particularly in places like Sydney where the map is already built - it’s not uncommon to find new editors wanting to find and divide everything they can find to divide that hasn’t been divided yet, because they can’t find much else to do. Sometimes that’s useful, sometimes it’s counter-productive and/or results in the map being broken; thoughtful editing is better that going on a road-dividing spree.
