bowties are OK for directions, but users complain that the roads “don’t look like that”.
There is another way – make the segments shorter than 15m, and Waze won’t try to route a u-turn.
PLEASE talk to Webs101 and EECGeek – they’re both active in that area, and can give you some suggestions on changes that can be made to benefit the map (without getting into these complex things).
I’m not unlocking that street right now, but I will repair the intersection.
I think that the OP’s motivation to create a bowtie comes from the Junction Style Guide.
I assume that whether or not the practices promoted in the JSG are good is a debatable subject. After all, apps and devices from other vendors aren’t nearly as radical in their treatment of divided roads and intersections.
It’s true… the bowtie is there to solve some very specific problems, but it creates far more!
- ugly in client
- if you’re not VERY careful, you’ll get a turn direction (either stay right or turn right) when you’re going straight
#2 is the biggest concern – I’d sooner have an intersection giving erroneous U-Turn directions than telling people to turn when they’re going straight. The first one is far easier to ignore!
