Although the roadworks on the M4 J3-12 have finished all the Average Speed Check cameras are still installed along the route.
Despite the cameras still being there they have all been deleted (again) and, no surprise, a whole new batch of URs have appeared at their locations since.
Can the UK Champs clarify what the current guidelines are for these cameras? The map comments at each location state they have been de-commissioned but that doesn’t mean they should be deleted while they are still there.
Looking at the UK guidelines I believe they should still be mapped as they are visible to the public and, although they do not have ‘camera not in use’ signs, could be mapped as Dummy Cameras?
That’s quite odd really, National Highways are usually quite quick at ripping their equipment out after projects, was there any detail in them remaining as permanent cameras or are they the temp kind?
I removed them recently and dealt with all the URs relating to the fact that the ASZ has now gone and the limit is no longer 60mph.
As you say, I have added map comments at all the locations.
This was the approach I took with the M27 widening earlier this year and it worked fine and the cameras went within weeks. Yes - you get a flurry of URs but it quickly subsides and the comments help everyone deal with the URs and then you don’t have to track when individual cameras are removed.
Strictly speaking you are right by the Wazeo, so I’m happy to try having dummy cameras mapped and see if that’s a better approch.
To be honest, whatever we do we will get URs. Even with dummy cameras mapped, you’ll get URs saying it didn’t notify them.
These project always cause confusion when there a long period of 50mph ASZ with temporary cameras, then it’s switches to variable limits with the new gantry mounted cameras but capped at 60mph for months while they calibrate/test, and now finally it’s back to NSL.
