FYI, it was brought to my attention that all exits off the Maine Turnpike are tolled for EZPass users, although only some are for cash users. Currently, only the cash-tolled exits are marked as “Toll Road”.
My inclination is to mark all exits as toll. The current set up appears to be affecting routing: when going from I-95 N to I-295 N, Waze is choosing Exit 45 (which is free but more convoluted) over Exit 44 (which is tolled but direct).
Judging by the traffic trying to squeeze through the express lane in the I93 NH toll, compared to the small amount going to the cash booths, this Memorial day weekend, it appears that a majority of users have EZpasses.
I think exit 45 may be an anomaly, not having a cash lane when leaving the highway, but it does cost EZpass users $.05 extra going that way rather than exit 44 when heading north on I95.
The dilemma is; going the extra exit saves cash payers $1. All in all though, I think it’s better to route via the less circuitous exit 44.
