Manchester Academy - Navigation Confusion

I used Waze last night to take me to the Manchester Academy music venue (I know where it is and how to get there but you know how it is) and the default location it came up with was for the Manchester Academy School. This is nearby but not close enough for it to not matter which you end up at.

Just type “Manchester Academy” into the search box and you’ll hopefully see what I mean.

When I type “Manchester Academy” into Waze on the live map it takes me to a black and white pin at the school rather than giving me any choices and presumably this is what the client did last night. Until then I wasn’t aware of there being an alternative Academy, it makes sense there might be but with them being so close I didn’t notice and suspect others may suffer the same if they aren’t careful.

Can anything be done to make the Manchester Academy School only come up with “School” in the name to prevent confusion? The pin it takes me to doesn’t seem to be editable, I’ve added a “place” but now think this might just add another option to the list and not clear up the dual places with the same name.

Any help would be appreciated, Manchester isn’t my territory so I don’t want to step on any toes but as I was in user mode last night and picked this up I wanted to raise it.

Hmm… tricky. It seems that Google has two places with that name, and the 1st choice is the school:

  • Manchester Academy, Manchester
  • Manchester Academy, Oxford Rd, Manchester

Google knows that one is educational, and the other is a music venue, but this information doesn’t make it to the app.

I’ve suggested an edit to Google to rename it Manchester Academy School, though they might not accept it.

Thanks for the reply, felt a bit daft when I realised the black and white marker appears for everything I look up on the website map so it’s a relief I wasn’t completely off the mark with the actual results.

Appreciate you taking the time to raise this with Google.

Google have published my edit. Does it work any better now?

I don’t have my phone to hand at the moment but I’ll give it a try asap - the website map still goes to the school by default but that could just be a timing thing.
