Map Editor missing Left Turn

Hello Fellow Map Editors/Wazers,

This is my first time on this forum. I’ve been enjoying the app as a regular Waze user, but I have recently gotten very interested in making it even better, ever since the most recent update came out. It got a lot of things right, and I wish to send my feedback to the right people.

There is a drive I take every day out of work that I noticed has an issue. I went on the Live Map and tried editing it. I learnt that I do not have the permission of doing so until I graduate to Level 2, which is totally understandable. I then decided that I would report the issue to somebody who can make a difference, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong. I clicked on the segment and tried holding it down, just like it’s explained in the FAQ - no luck!

I then went on the Wiki and read a little bit about getting started to edit and learned how to create a new road. What I found next explained the issue with this road. The new road creation tool does not allow a Left Turn out of the parking lot, take a look in the image attached.

Please note the painted road markings in the Satellite Image, indicating that traffic can flow both Left and Right (there is a traffic light).

Is there a workaround/solution to this?

Thanks,
Gary

Holding down on the segment is only for the livemap: waze.com/livemap, not the map editor. You can’t turn left because that is intersecting with the segment heading right. You can’t turn left onto that. You’d need to enable the straight on it, then enable left turn on the NEXT segment (see the one in between the two blue roads?) for Waze to tell you to turn left. The arrows on the road indicate it’s a one way road heading in the direction of the arrow.

Ahhh! That makes perfect sense now. See, there is no way to go straight without making a left turn, and that is probably why Waze was setup that way initially. I’ll work on it, thank you!

Welcome to Waze! Be sure to check out your state’s wiki page, it will be invaluable to guiding your efforts and has info on your fellow New York editors you can reach out to directly for help when needed.

Not totally true, you’re focused on the satellite image, Waze is focused on logically what do I need to tell a driver to do. So, if that short segment had the arrow going straight enabled, and the next segment that intersects the road going left has the left turn enabled, the driver gets an instruction to “turn left on NY-##”. If you can’t drive straight across to something we can’t see in your screenshot, that is handled on the next segment.

Currently this junction seems to be wrong.

There should be straight drive and left turn enabled…

You may also want to change your username to something, ahem, appropriate. That’s not something you want to spread all over the map while editing :expressionless: .

Can’t say I recall what I did here, since this is not my usual editing area. In any case, the problem has been fixed.

Thanks all for the assist, but please remember to encourage new forum users to post under the appropriate forum topic. This question is best addressed locally; New York has its own topic here: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=250
