Miles driven accuracy?

Left home Waze indicated “Drive 30 miles to next level”, drove about 10 miles to office; now Waze indicates “Drive 29 miles to next level”.

I was expecting: 30 - 10 = 20; for Waze 30 - 10 = 29???

I wonder if there could be an accuracy issue here or am I misunderstanding something?

Levels are dependent on the other Wazers in your area. The more they drive, the more you will need to drive to catch them.
