Mississippi Waze Map Editor Roll Call

Attention Mississippi map editors!

I’m in the beginning stages of organizing a Mississippi Waze Cafe. What is a “Waze Cafe” you might ask?

Waze Cafes are small (10-15 participants), community-organized events where local editors meet to collaborate on any editing/community issues.

As a first step in planning this, I’m reaching out to the Mississippi editing community to see who might be interested in attending. Waze Cafes are typically held in casual environments such as restaurant / coffee place. Waze covers the cost of food/beverage (dinner/lunch). Waze will also cover your travel expenses, up to $50 per person.

Once I get a list of 10-15 MS map editors, we can start planning a date and location for our MS Waze Cafe.

This will be open to editors of all levels, even those that are interested in learning how to edit the Waze map and those just getting started.
I talked with @sketch at the NA Mega Meetup about planning our MS Waze Cafe and he gave me the go ahead to start planning it. Waze needs at least four weeks advance notice to register the event and get it on the calendar.

Reply here and let me know who you are, where you edit in the state, and if you would be interested in eating a free lunch and talking about map editing.

Also, if you have not joined our Discord chat server already, please do so! When you get to the server say hello in the #mississippi channel and let us know where your editing area is at. Discord invite link

Thanks,
Major - majorjc_MS

AM for extreme NE LA and central/south MS (plus south AL in SER). Depending on the date, I’d be interested. Haven’t been very active recently, but looking to get back into it more, time permitting.

MS Waze Café

Our MS Waze Café will be on Saturday, June 28th in Hattiesburg, MS. Open to all editors with editable area in MS.

The exact location/restaurant is still being decided.

Registration form <—Please register here to reserve you spot at the table!
The maximum number of editors that can attend is 15 so please only sign-up if you are 99% certain you’ll be able to attend.

You can find the event listed under the 2025 event list.

Waze will cover the cost of your meal/drinks/tax/tip up to $50 per participant. This will be on a single itemized ticket and will be paid by the event coordinator, majorjc_MS, and then submitted to Waze for reimbursement.

Waze will also cover travel expenses for each participant, up to $50 per person. It’s important to note that if participants spend less on travel, the remaining funds cannot be used for food/drinks. The food budget and travel budget are totally separate. Attending editors should simply keep their travel receipts and submit them individually through the travel reimbursement form. Before traveling, please carefully read the form to understand the requirements or watch this tutorial.

Thank you guys for a great Waze Café in Hattiesburg, MS at Mugshots Grill and Bar.

We had a great luncheon of burgers and beer and then several hours of conversation. We talked about URs, roundabouts, junction boxes, speed limits, and many other things not related to Waze, such as gardening, baseball, EVs, and such. Mugshots allowed us to use their ‘Party Room’ so we had plenty of room and privacy. I believe this was the first Waze meetup in Mississippi and I believe it was a successful event.

I’m looking forward to hosting another meetup in the future.

Any new editors that want to talk about editing or need help, please leave a reply here or message me on our SCR Discord server that I linked in the first post of this thread.
