This month I navigated via waze about 850km.
My smartphone says waze used about 104mb of data by now. The (german) wikipedia article says, that waze uses about 10kb/km!
Does anyone has the same issues? Some months before, the app didn’t burned up so much data…
As far as I can tell the 10kb/km statement applys to regular driving. Possible factors that might increase the data volume: updates of the Waze client, downloading new language sets, downloading tiles in different zoom levels for areas you’ve never been to before - but all these shouldn’t increase the traffic the way you describe.
It’s possible the app/system feature you use to control the traffic volume works incorrect, it may add the data volume used by system features or other apps running simultaneously, calculates faulty in general or (after an update of that specific system/additional app) uses a different algorithm for calculations now, adding “full units” similar to storage calculations know from computers (“data blocks”).
Do you have another way to control the traffic caused by Waze or can you compare it to other apps you monitored before to see if there’s a similar boost?

the app “my data manager” says, that waze only used 36,3mb in august… this sounds more realistic to me

Bist du vor allem neue Strecken gefahren?
Ich bin nicht der Vielfahrer. Habe aber auch im August 26,5 mb für Waze verbraucht. Und das bei gerade mal 300 km im August. Ganz schön viel :o
Diese 10 kb/km hab ich nie als solches wahrgenommen. Es war immer ein höherer Verbrauch. Das mag vielleicht hinkommen, wenn man jeden Tag von der Arbeit nach Hause fährt. Aber nicht, wenn man immer neue Strecken fährt. Darum hab ich auch kein 500 MB Vertrag mehr

Ja, genau das meinte ich mit “regular driving”. 
Habe gerade mal nachgesehen, die letzten beiden Monate war mein Datenverbrauch durch Waze 60 und 50 MB, fahre aber mehr als 1000 km im Monat.
Für die vorherigen Monate erhalte ich leider keine Anzeige mehr, glaube mich aber zu erinnern, dass es mal weniger war, mag also tatsächlich mit der neuen Version zusammenhängen?
