Hi,
Not sure how to load the road closure map for the 94.7 cycle challenge this weekend.
This is a bit beyond my sill level.
http://www.cyclechallenge.co.za/roadclosureupdates
Pretty sure it’s been loaded already. Have a look at https://www.waze.com/events/947-cycle-challenge. Give me a shout if any segments are missing and I’ll add them manually.
It doesn’t help that we can’t see who applied or removed a closure, as the segment last edit details aren’t updated.
I had a road in Durbanville that has been closed for construction for the past three months. Yesterday morning I received a report from a Wazer that the road was open. By the time I checked in WME a few hours later, four of the closures were gone, and only two remained.
On the way home, I droved down this route, and when I got home, the last two closures had also gone.
So now I hoping that someone else removed those closures, and that it’s not a case that they are automatically removed when a Wazer drives through the closure.
Now that you mention it I think that they may be removed automatically. There is now an option for “ignore traffic” when adding a closure.
 I missed that finer detail. I’ve also just seen that if you edit the closure, you can see who and when it was added. So these closures were added a couple of weeks ago, by Waze themselves, as someone had submitted the details of the 94.7 closures as a Major Traffic Event.

I’m thinking that one of our wiser users may decide to use the app while cycling… You know for speed and what not. Don’t you think that the restrictions should be changed to ignore traffic? In any case in planning on going through it thoroughly tomorrow to see whether any segments were missed and that the times are correct.
Hi Leigh
That was me, and this is an interesting coincidence.
There was a UR that the road was now open, so I removed the restrictions. For some reason WME was not showing the closures, even though I had the layer selected, and I missed the two closures. Later when I was responding in WME to the reporter, WME showed the closures and I then removed them. So between you driving there and getting home, I must have removed the last two!
I see there is now an option “Ignore traffic” when doing closures. This will be useful to prevent construction traffic from disabling the closure.
Regards
Rod
Hi Rod
Those two closures are STILL there. As you’ve stated, they aren’t there in WME, but are on the client and Livemap and it’s driving me nuts.
I’m thinking about adding a new closure on each of those two problem segments, setting those closures to expire early tomorrow morning, and see if they’ve gone in the morning. If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to take it up with HQ.
Leigh.
