My Waze wishes (aka suggestions)

I’m sure some may have said this before, but there are two main things that I REALLY wish Waze would do that affect me everyday:

1 - When I get a phone call, I don’t have data = Waze does not record my distance or report points. I talk to my husband every night on the way home during my commute and lose about 40 miles/day because of it. GPS still tracks me though…can’t waze still report that mileage since GPS is still tracking?? Maybe save mileage to a datafile on my sd card and upload when a good enough connection is available or it ask me if I would like to upload the history??

2 - Is kind of related to #1, I have about 15 minutes of my commute (one-way) with no signal, yet GPS still tracks me. Waze could also save this information to a datafile for upload later. You could add a setting that is an opt-in type thing to enable it for those that may not have very much room on their SD cards or do not wish to have it do this.

Yes I know, points are just points and they don’t really DO anything, but I would love to know where I truly would be at

I lose data signal on trips for 40-50min and Waze caches and uploads the data once signal is re-established. At around an hour, Waze refuses to reconnect to the servers for trip data upload, though it does still connect to upload log files. That’s on iOS. Here’s a thread about that, but you’re on something other than iOS…

I wonder if others have similar issues with that amount of time off-network? What’s your HW/OS?

My guess, the OP has a single radio CDMA Android SmartPhone.

If #1 is that important, you can change phone carriers to a GSM (AT&T) carrier that allows for simultaneous voice and data.

Another option is to see if you can place your phone call with an Application that actually is using the data vs. the phone network.

Maybe Waze will enhance the capabilities in the future. But you need to keep in mind that the primary benefits of Waze is the real time data and traffic conditions. Old GPS data that is uploaded later is not contributing real time traffic data to benefit the community.

I have seen reports that enabling data compression helps in this situation.

It isn’t a fix but calls and outages can go a bit longer before they interrupt the trace.
