Has anyone else noticed that the N1 between Bloem and Winburg, maybe further North too, is a complete mess.
I’m finding map segments 10’s of kilometers long that Waze map editor cannot seem to handle/ and or are corrupt (ghost roads) and roads on top of roads and all manner of madness there.
Come on guys lets fix the N1 from Bloem all the way through to Gauteng.
I’ve asked Waze to delete the few Ghost roads I’ve found so far, if you find any please as support to delete them.
It seems that these very long segments are problematic. If the segment is so long that it extends beyond the total Editor window at the maximum zoom then trouble is pretty much a certainty.
I think these segments ‘appear’ when you pan at low zoom and follow a large part of the road.
I saw the same thing last night while checking it, following it northward.
There was one particular segment that indicated a length of almost 69000 meters. This was close to where ramps actually intersected the freeway, and I could drag the node off to the side and still have the underlying long stretch visible underneath it.
It seemed to have the same creator, but different editors. I hit Permalink and it refreshed, and the long segment was gone.
I’ll try tracing it again tonight and see if I can get any segment id for it.
I must say that I am actually surprised that any routing was done through this stretch, as turn restrictions was a mess. I’m sure if was not for the soft restrictions, you would not have been routed further than 50Kms on here.
I quickly traversed the track again today and saw that one of the ramps at Kroonstad was not connected. Not sure if it was due to me having Highlights on for Locked objects as well, but it clearly showed up today using ‘Unterminated roads’.
If someone else can please take the time to also have a quick glance I would appreciate it.
Good news,
I’ve had confirmation from support that the ghost segment was removed. I see it’s the same segment id as zs2cli logged before as well.
I cannot see any of the three segments that was logged, so even if only 2 was confirmed, it looks like all 3 is gone.
If you gents can fix up that part of the road, I’ll look further up north at least all the way to Pretoria.
I logged another ghost segment which was removed yesterday.
Last night I checked all the segments from the 1st or 2nd exits to Bloem, all the way through to south of Johannesburg again. Any unlocked segments were locked, as some of the junctions still (read again) had turn restrictions that would not allow routing.
If someone else can give it a quick once over as well, it would be appreciated.
There was a lot of URs generated in the area of the ghost segment. Just in case some of them belongs to someone reading the forums, a few was marked as fixed, the rest I flagged as not identified, but you are welcome to verify the area of the URs.
When I drove Johannesburg -> Cape Town and back about a year ago(?) I tried to fix up the whole route afterwards. Some of the overly long segments may be my fault: I deleted a whole bunch of junctions because there were junctions practically every 100m in some places which makes editing challenging, and I may have gone overboard with that. I also had problems with some segments behaving extremely strangely when editing them, this may have been the result of “ghost” segments.
I don’t have editing permissions from that trip anymore, of course, so I can’t do much about it now, but glad to see other people are helping out
Thanks guys. I see that that stretch is looking great now and routing is possible all the way from the East London to Pretoria and beyond!
Currently been doing a lot of editing in the rural areas around the Freestate, North West and Limpopo. Trying to bring the larger regional roads online and the smaller national roads.
