I have 2 streets in my area that are named: S A W Grimes Blvd, and N A W Grimes Blvd. Currently Waze pronounces theses as “South A West Grimes Blvd” when it should be “South A W Grimes Blvd”. How should I rename the street so that the “W” in “A W” is not pronounced as “West”? Should I name the street as “S A.W. Grimes Blvd” or “S AW Grimes Blvd”?
As noted in many threads and in the wiki, put any cardinal direction letters inside single quotes if you want the letter name pronounced.
I would suggest doing a test of “A.W.”, “AW”, and even " ‘AW’ " to see which gives the best result. You may have to try a few variations (spacing, periods, single quotes) before you find something that works (ie. isn’t pronounced “Awww” & looks OK on the client as text.)
