For SH let’s keep the hwy name as Pune - Satara road SH-84 irrelevant of the direction … But considering the SH-84 is the part of overall NH-4 Hwy… We just can’t ignore route from Pune to Satara as its SH and name it only “Pune - Satara Hwy MH-SH-84”… I checked the Bing Aerials, as well as google maps, both are very different. Lets not forget NH-4 is a part of GQ. I think we can Name it as NH-4 as the main name and in alternate name we can mention MH-SH-84.
For NH we can name it NH-4, NH-9 and so on (ref. Bing Map) Alternate name option can be applied to this as well mentioning the city name from which hwy is crossing by.
Whenever there’s any road reports, it will pop up on screen, user on that route can always see on the client map and the nature of road report.
In alternative name if we want to mention the more details (route details-city and street) we can always.
:o :o think over it again we can change it for good reason…
I have traveled on the above mentioned road many times, Waze screen gets cluttered… With the long names…
I feel that its better to give “National Highways” the preference over “State Highways” if a single road shares both.
How about keeping the Longer names according to the nomenclature (either considering directionality or not) for few kms out of the Major city/town and then keeping just the Highway number all the way till we are close to the next city/town?
This will give the waze user idea on what highway is taking them where at the start of their journey and they know later with just the number that they are going on the right track, it will not clutter the maps much and will also give enough information on the incident report :!: :!:
Commonsense would dictate that Puneet. But it is indeed rare for a SH and NH to be on the same route. It does not happen in Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar or Kerala. I’m mildly surprised that SH and NH run along the same routes in Maharashtra.
That would be appropriate for a Local Wazer who knows the names of all the towns/cities. But suppose someone from a totally different part of India comes to this Highway, I’m sure he will feel lost.
Secondly, this will require much more detailing, will prove to be difficult to enforce across the board with Map Editors and break the uniformity.
And the biggest point is this that when you are driving on the Highway or anywhere else, you should look at the road more, and less at your phone. All you see is a long blue or red line, when you are not driving in your city.
