Currently I’ve been leaving the City and Street names blank on entrances/exits, to/from Freeways. But do we need to consider better names than this? Perhaps similar to other countries that tell the user which road they’re going onto?

Ian

I agree wtih you to name the entrances and exits ramps. In Malaysia, we name it in this format: Exit/Entry (road number) (Road name/top 1st city name stated on the signboard) eg.: Exit 3301 Jalan Duta
Same naming format could apply in China too. For example this exit ramp (see attached photo) can be named as: 出口6 潮安 (Exit 6 Chao’an).
Please advice. ![]()

Chaun,
This system would be brilliant if we had access to street view in China. Although I think we’ll have to recruit some locals as editors to fill the gaps. Some of the Freeway to Freeway junctions will be easy to master but the large majority of junctions will be nigh on impossible at the moment.

Hi Ian,
Maybe we can use BaiduMap’s street view as a reference. Their street view is available on almost all major cities. I relied on it when I came to create complex junctions and one-way segments. ![]()

Hi Chaun,
Great, I even got it to work! Now got to figure out where to find the Chinese characters on my keyboard to complete the work.
Just for my own reference where place names are side by side, which normally takes preference? The UK doesn’t submit to this practice (all ours are stacked)

Ian
Okay using the Baidu map streetview as a reference I’ve named a few of the ramps for this junction of the S19 机场二通道 Airport 2nd Expy / 三环线 3rd Ring Road. I can’t get a translation program to give me the correct Chinese characters for Dongxihu or a reliable translation for “Exit to”
Following the precedence set with other roads should they be Chinese first and English alternative or Chinese English as the street signs :?:
Regards,
Ian
Hello Ian,
Sorry for late response. Seems like you already figure out the “Exit to” translation. ![]()
Regarding the road naming, it was suggested to name it at Chinese first and English as alternative prior to MR China. Maybe Leo can clarify that?

Chuan
The naming on ramp is purely for instruction. The name will not be shown on the map. If we put Chinese and English, the instruction will be too long. I prefer to use Chinese only and not put English at all even on alternative name field.
Also it’s better not to put City name too.
Summarize:
Hi Leo,
Thanks for your swift response. Can we incorporate these information into Wiki page? I can help to draft it out. ![]()

It will be a great help to us. ![]()
I typed in all the name shown on exit board, but it seems too long with dual language
Thank Eric, please put the English translation for the time being.
