At the last few conferences, I’ve suggested adding a new tickbox in WME to allow us to flag narrow roads with/without passing places. This will give the user the opportunity to avoid routing along narrow / single track roads at the expense of a slightly longer journey in the same manner they can elect to avoid tolls and motorways, etc. This is a cost that I and many others are prepared to pay. It was fairly well supported at the last conference in July.
The general topic of unsuitable diversionary roads has cropped up on here from time to time. I’ve also responded to several URs complaining of this, plus I find it frustrating that Waze is routing me along unsuitable roads for the sake of saving 2 minutes on a journey.
So far, I’m not aware of any progress with this suggestion.
I’ve therefore just created a Waze suggestion to try and motivate HQ in getting the ball rolling. Yes, I know I’m probably banging my head against a very large wall with this one (I know the parking project and recording your own voice for guidance is apparently of considerably higher importance that something that could actually reduce stress and improve road safety!), but you never know…
I’d really appreciate it if anyone who is in agreement could click on the link above and give it 3 votes please. Even if you don’t think it’s important, please click and vote for it anyway!
It would be nice Waze directed me down a single track road on my way to Filey for a Holiday. I can think of a few roads this could apply to which are short cuts unsuited to large Vehicles.
Voted, it’s something that would definitely make the Waze experience a lot better for us UK users, but isn’t something that would only benefit our relatively small community in the grander scheme of things - narrow roads exist pretty much all over the world, though perhaps not to the extent they do here, so it’s an option that would be of use globally.
And yes, I was also a bit bemused at how enthusiastic HQ seem to be about the record your own announcements feature… The parking project otoh will at least provide genuine value to many users (how many of us use Waze only for our daily commute and therefore would never need it to direct us to a parking place?) once it’s completed - lets just try to forget about the pain it’s caused us to date, eh
