Necessity of camera alerts in an average speed zones

Sections of the M3 are limited to 50mph during on-going road works. There appears to be about 7 cameras between J3 and J2… J2 is about where the 50mph zone ends.

Just wondering if it is necessary to give alerts for every camera that’s in an average speed zone.

What is the benefit to being alerted continuously in an average speed zone?

It’s a makeshift solution so I wouldn’t overthink it at the moment. A more intuitive process for ASC is being worked on!

Have there been any update to how Average Speed Cameras are handled?

I would love to be able to turn them off for my regular commute. I go past about 15 of them on my commute and I feel I’m becoming conditioned to ignore the alerts.

The only “update” as such is that UK policy has solidified to always marking the cameras. The reasoning is simple enough - they are real and very visible cameras.

If they’re not marked on the Waze map, there will be a constant stream of users reporting them. Then reporting them again when they didn’t appear last time. Then getting annoyed that they still haven’t appeared. And every single one of these reports involves a driver distracted from driving.

There will also be annoyed editors constantly wiping reported cameras. If the cameras are marked, then any reports from at or near the existing locations are “absorbed” by the existing cameras instead of appearing as new unconfirmed cameras on the WME map.

Since you’re in a zone where speed is effectively constantly monitored, a frequent reminder of this is not a bad thing.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Do you think there will ever be a time when users can control whether or not to display traffic camera alerts?
Ultimately, I’d like to decide for myself.

And given the number of drivers who still insist on jumping on the brakes as they drive past a SPECS camera, the in-app warnings of the actual camera positions can also provide a useful heads-up to expect some crap (or at least more crap than usual) driving around you…

Isn’t that what “Advanced settings > Display & map > Alerts on route > Speed cameras” is for?
