New editor questions and too much info

Preface: If I’m overstepping boundaries here, please help get locate the proper source.

With so much information often referenced in a post, it’s impractical to review it all just to find an answer to a simple question. I commonly see “read the FAQ” which I read but often find it confusing matters even more. For example, how can I increase my ranking so that I can edit areas which require a higher rank than what I current have, to which I’ve found, you increase your ranking by making more edits. Appears to be a catch-22.

I simply want to make cosmetic changes to correct inaccuracies on routes I drive regularly but I can’t because I need a higher rank. I’m sure I’m not the first driver to make these discoveries and if it was so easy, why haven’t they already been made?

I’ve seen posts to a forum requesting such changes and they’re usually done but how does the user requesting the change get the credit? Maybe questions like these have been answered in some FAQ I’ve yet to discover.

Maybe there’s someone designated as a mentor on each forum that could be called upon for answers to what should be rather simple questions from new/novice users …but only after they’re reviewed the FAQ :?

Just trying to be helpful along the routes I driver regularly but I figure those that already drive these as I do, probably aren’t paying attention to the inaccuracies. Maybe that’s why no one has made the changes. My apologies if I’ve upset anyone, just seeking some clarity so I can make contributions where appropriate

hello.

Segments that are locked above your rank are set that way because the segments are usually of more importance to correct routing. You can still edit these segments however. You just need an editor who can unlock them to do so. In that way, waze map editing allows new editors to interact with more senior editors so that they can learn by doing in addition to learning by reading.

You have not voiced a concern that others have not already raised.

If you’d like to join us in the south east slack channel, you’ll have almost real time access to other senior editors who can help you learn best editing practices.

Cool username! I’m new to this as well and often wondered the same. I’ve learned there’s more madness to the method with many things, but just having fun exploring the boards and Slack group. I can’t say that I’ll ever find the time to ‘build’ my level with a senior person though.

Feel free to take your time and ask questions. There is a lot of information but part of the reason is to allow you to test things out and apply your knowledge in a safer environment.

You can always experiment using the practice mode in the Waze Map Editor - of course, things won’t be saved there, but if you wanted to see what tools are there.

If you ever have any questions, please ask.
