Here’s my scenario. I use several devices, but let’s keep it simple with device A and B.
On device A, I log in to prod with my userid and password, get the “verify your account” prompt, enter the code, and check “remember this device.” I work for a while on that device with no issues.
Then, on device B, I do the same — log in, verify, and again choose “remember this device.” That works fine too.
But when I go back to device A, sometimes I’m lucky and stay logged in, but most of the time I get prompted to log in again. I enter my userid and password, and I’m once more asked to verify my account. This happens even though I’ve already said to remember my device.
My expectation is that I shouldn’t see the verification prompt again — ideally, I shouldn’t even need to log in at all. This behavior occurs on all my devices, regardless of browser or OS.
Thanks a lot for elaborating on your scenario. I’ll let the team know what it looks like on your end.
Just one more question - when you switch between devices to you use WME Prod/Beta/both?
In my case, on an Android phone, I open a link sent via messaging app and it opens in Chrome. I add username/password, select remember device. Enter 2FA code from e-mail. 2 days later do the same and I have to go through the process again.
Hi,
Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I’m still a bit confused about something. If you’re using the QR code, why is the device and browser where 2FA was completed (for example, the in-app browser on your phone) remembered? Editing in WME from a phone seems quite unlikely, so why keep that information only there?
I would have thought the QR code itself is the 2FA step, meaning that once you’ve scanned it, you wouldn’t need to enter your user ID, password, or do 2FA again—unless you explicitly log out.
If you still want to log in with a user ID and password, I’d expect a 2FA setup that works with standard apps like Google Authenticator, Bitwarden, Authy, and so on.
Passkeys also seem like a strong alternative to consider.
Cheers,
Eddy
Thank you for your comment, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
Could you please provide a bit more information? Are you performing all of these steps on the same mobile device only? Could you please describe your workflow in more detail?
I want to collect as many details as possible to share with the development team. This will help them identify the root cause.
I understand that the process isn’t perfect; however, using a QR code provides an additional way to log in via the browser.
Regarding any misbehavior: if there are still workflows that don’t match the described login process, I’d like to ask you to open a separate bug report. This will allow us to track the progress and give other users the opportunity to upvote it.
Many of us use Discord, Slack, Telegram, etc, to communicate. We get sent a link asking for a segment to get unlocked. Open the link. It opens in Chrome on my phone (Pixel 9 Pro XL with latest OS). If it has been more than a few hours, I have to login again using the e-mail code. The day I posted, I had logged in somewhat recently and didn’t have to log in. I hadn’t logged in on my phone since my last post, and now I have to login with e-mail code (2 days).
