No direction on traffic? is it north or southbound?

“Bumper to bumper on Main street in your town.”

But that’s just southbound… the northbound traffic is moving fine.

Shouldn’t I be able to see this on the map and in the reports?

Just a friendly tip: in the future, it isn’t necessary to post the same topic twice (http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8729). Sometimes the forums move slowly, sometimes we don’t know the answer… and in either of those cases posting this same topic more than once won’t make anyone respond faster. No big deal… there’s your lesson in forum etiquette for the day!

This is a feature I hope to see in the future. Right now, I suspect the problem is something like this (although I admit that I haven’t really poked around in the code very much, so this really is only a guess). When Waze generates reports, I bet it goes: “person is driving slowly. Traffic! Traffic! What road is the person driving on?”, and then it takes the name of the street and sticks it in a report. I know it’s more complicated than that, but the other details don’t necessarily matter for this discussion. The point is… I don’t think Waze ever says: “traffic! What road is the person driving on? What direction are they traveling in?” So it really has no way of knowing.

There would be flaws with simply determining the direction someone is travelling in and sticking that in the report, too.

I don’t know how it is on the US server but on the world server for the reports generated automatically I can always see the arrows pointing a direction of the traffic on the map. Also if the road is not inside a city the report text is something like “from City1 to City2” giving a hint about the direction. When reporting a traffic manually I must always choose whether I report traffic on “my lane” or “other lane”. Unfortunately, I cannot see the direction for the user generated traffic reports but surely the system knows the direction and sometimes already displays it.
